Crested Cranes finished fourth in the CECAFA women’s championship that ended on Tuesday at the Fufa technical center with Tanzania emerging champions.
The Ugandan ladies were thumped 4-1 in the third place playoffs despite taking the lead early in the game. Many pundits and stakeholders opted to pick the positives from the tournament and learn from the insufficiencies.
Crested Cranes professional player Jean Sseninde who turns out for Queens Park Rangers in England believes the tournament was important for the team to gel and gain international experience.
“We didn’t have the best performance as expected but gained quality experience as a team,” Sseninde told ChimpSport.
“Getting five international games in one week has been so great and I believe We shall be strong contenders next time.”
The 23-year old says her debut for the national team in the championship was a ‘very important’ to her future career and is looking to lift the team higher in upcoming games.
“It’s been great being a part of this team, many young girls all over the country would have loved to be a part and are working hard, so to be here means the world to me. Hope next assignments will be better. My aim is to work hard and improve as a player so that I can be able to come back on this team and do better.”
Jean is the only player to have turned out for a national team among her peers at Queens Park Rangers and is promising more.
“My plan is to work hard and make sure I improve because Am a fighter, and when things don’t workout I find a way to make them work in my way. So am aiming to keep working hard for both QPR and my country so that I can retain my spot on this great Ugandan team,” she summed.
