
Sport-S dominated the proceedings at the 12th edition of the Uganda Christian University (UCU) volleyball open clinching both the men’s and women’s titles.
Sports-S defeated Sky 3-1 in the men’s category while in the women’s class, it outwitted defending champions Vision Volleyball camp(VVC) 3-2 to win the title.
Sport-S who were in Pool C came better of Sky in the finals taking the first set 25-23 before Sky claimed the second 25-18 but the eventual winners came recharged winning the next two sets 25-22 and 25-20 to be crowned champions.
Sports S began the two day event defeating UPDF volleyball club and OKVC winning 3-0 in both games before crushing Destiny volleyball club 3-0 at the round of 16.
It was similar score for Sports S in the quarterfinals winning 3-0 against Tigers. The semifinal brought a final before the final with Sport S meeting defending champions Nemo stars.
Sport-S managed to win 3-1 and dump out the defending champions before defeating Sky volleyball club in the finals with the same score.
In the women’s category, the fairytale story for Sport-S this year continued winning the UCU volleyball open to bag their fifth title this year.
Prior to the UCU championship, Sport-S had won the KIU volleyball open, MUST open, the Genocide memorial championship in Rwanda and the Aporu memorial tournament.
The Deo Winyi coached side overcame defending champions Vision volleyball camp 3-2 in a thrilling final that required a decisive set to determine the winner.
Sports S won the first set 25-20 but VVC claimed the next two sets 25-22 and 25-19 before Sport S edged 28-26 to win the fourth set and eventually winning 15-13 in the decisive set.
In the third place playoff Nemostars defeated hosts UCU Doves 3-2 in the men’s category while Nkumba University also beat UCU 3-2 in the women’s category.
