Rugby Uganda Cup: Heathens, Kobs Cruise to Quarterfinals

Betway Kobs and Hima Cement Heathens began the 2016 rugby  Uganda cup with remarkable wins at the round of 16 played over the weekend across the country.

Reigning league champions and cup holders Betway Kobs white washed ENGSOL stallions 06-118 at Kyadondo rugby club ground on Saturday.

Keith Sseruyange scored a double brace (4 tries) while Ramathan Govule registered a hatrick to compel the home side to a comprehensive defeat.

Michael Amolo and Alfred Karikaho scored two tries each while seven other kobs players had a try each to complete the rout.

These included James Ijongat who also made 14 conversions, Davis Kiwalabye, Derrick Tukwasibwe, Cyrus Watum, Oscar Kalyango, Ian Munyani and Augustine Kasansule.

In Mbale, Hima Cement Heathens defeated Mbale rugby club 106-06 to storm into the quarterfinals while Shell Rimula Rhinos beat the UCU Shepard 58-00.

Mutoni Warriors travelled to Jinja and defeated hosts Jinja Hippos at the Jinja Dam waters ground 50-10 while Toyota Buffaloes also got better of the Mbale elephants winning 67-03.

Action continues next weekend with the quarterfinal fixtures. Hima Cement heathens will play at home to Mutoni Warriors while Betway kobs will host Rimula Rhinos.

The other fixtures will see Black Pirates taking on the Makerere Impis while Toyota Buffaloes will play Mongers.
