Local football giants KCCA FC and Sports Club Villa will lock horns on Wednesday afternoon at the War memorial stadium in Nakivuubo as they vie for the first edition of the StarTimes Cup.

Both sides signed a sponsorship deal with the continental pay television subscribers for UgX 250M and 300M (per annum) respectively.

The match was initially planned to take place at the newly refurbished astro-turf at the Philip Omondi stadium in Lugogo but was later changed to Nakivuubo since the initial venue is still under construction.

The highly anticipated game will feature one of Africa’s greatest legends Nwanko Kanu  from Nigeria. Kanu signed a three year contract with StarTimes to be the pay TV’s brand ambassador.

The Nigerian will play for KCCA FC in the first half before he turns to their eternal nemesis in the second period.

“It’s a great honour to be working out with a global icon and discussing matters and tactics concerning football,” an elated KCCA FC head coach Mike Mutebi said stressing that, “We are going to field our best team because we want to win the trophy and also impress our chief guest. The match will also work as our warm up prior to facing Police FC in the Uganda Premier League,” Mutebi said.

Kanu jetted into the country on Tuesday and attended the Uganda Cranes versus Burkina Faso  Afcon qualifier.

KCCA Fc left back Joseph Ochaya is expected to miss the game after playing for Cranes in both games against Burkina Faso.
