The Saints coach Moses Basena is relieved a bit after his team picked an crucial point in Jinja on Tuesday against Jinja Municipal Hippos at Kakindu.
The army side had not won a match since October started picking only a point out of the nine available a situation that was beginning to worry the Cranes assistant coach.
“It was one of the games that we had to strive hard and win because we had finished three games without a win,” Basena said adding that “Actually, we were coming from two defeats in a row and therefore had to show some reaction in this game.”
The hosts swarmed the match officials after the game claiming some bit of poor officiating especially towards the end of the match but Basena quashed that saying they played hard and won the game.
“We didn’t have any special advantage in the game but just that we got our chance and used it perfectly.”
Aloro goal.
Rogers Aloro floated in a jaw dropping freekick from 25 yards to gift the visitors the priceless win. The midfielder could not hide his excitement after striking home “what he’s been perfecting” in training.
“It was a good goal for me and the team,” he said. “I’ve been training those kinds of set pieces and was glad my patience paid off. I’ m encouraged to work more.”
Simba (now Saints) ended the first round of last season with a paltry eleven points which later haunted and pushed the team down the drains but had a second life through Saints financial woes. The team has now accumulated fourteen, clinging on the ninth.
“We do not want to be embroiled in the relegation battle again because we know how hard it is to be in that fight. So we shall take each game as a final.”
