2016 has been such a success for Uganda prisons netball team. After winning the East African netball championship in April this year, they have gone on to retain the league title.
In a title decider played at Mandela national stadium parking lot, Prisons defeated bitter rivals National Insurance Corporation (NIC) to win the 2016 netball league.
Prior to the game, Prisons led the league on just one point above NIC and the game on Sunday served as the decider with the league coming to an end.
In a close contest, the defending champions took the first set 14-13 before holding on to win 11-10 as the lead kept oscillating from one side to another but Prisons headed into halftime leading 25-23.
It was even more stiff after recess as both sides kept pushing forward and the third set saw Prisons and NIC draw levels 09-09.
The fierce battle went all the way to the final quarter but Prisons nicked it winning 11-09 to end the game with a 45-41 victory.
The winners were rewarded with medals and UShs. 5M while NIC walked home with UShs. 3M.
