JMC Hippos 1-1 Vipers

Jinja Municipal council Hippos denied Vipers maximum points after the two sides shared spoils in the game played at Kakindu stadium on Tuesday.

Vipers took the lead through Duncan Sseninde but second half substitute Daniel Shabena levelled matters for the game to end in a one all draw.

Vipers started the game as the dominant side and Duncan Sseninde almost gave the visitors the lead after eleven minutes but he blasted the chance wide.

Sseninde however paid for the earlier miss in the 17th minute with a long range scorcher off Keziron Kizito’s assist.

The hosts then started pushing for the leveller and Ismail Watenga made a fine save from Herbert Kakande’s effort midway through the first half.

Shafik Bakaki cleared Walter Bankene’s header off the line with four minutes to halftime.

Kezron Kizito sustained an injury and was replaced by Brian Nkuubi after recess while the home side brought on Daniel Shabena for Patrick Onyango.

With an hour played, the game was brought to a temporary halt for ten minutes after JMC Hippos started pelting stones at referee Ochom.

After police intervention, the game restarted and the hippos equalised in the 72nd minute with Shabena brushing Viane Ssekajjugo’s cross into the net.

Abdallah Mubiru brought on Brian Kakaire and Alfred Leku for Duncan Sseninde and Musa Esenu respectively but Hippos held on until the final whistle.

The result means Vipers move down to fourth with nine points while JMC Hippos lie 15th with two points.

A 34th minute Milton Kaliisa strike was enough to ensure visitors BUL FC sunk Express FC at the Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku on Tuesday evening in the Azam Uganda Premier League.

The home team will have themselves to blame for a number of clear cut chances created only for John Ssemazzi and Herman Wasswa to fire blanks infront of the BUL FC  goal.

Express will also blame the match officials for the substandard handling of the game at Wankulukuku that saw them denied a penalty in the second half on top of poor officiation decisions.

Frank Video Anyau’s team was also unlucky for not taking the lead further after failure to covert a series of chances they got throughout the game.

The defeat at home ensured Express FC were condemned their first defeat in the 2016/2017 Azam Uganda Premier League.

In an interview with ChimpSport, Anyau however said he was not happy with his strikers whom he described as being goal shy and missed a number of chances created by his team.

“This has continued to confirm this country produces defenders and goalkeepers but not strikers. The win means nothing because we have to continue winning,” Anyau noted.

The BUL FC tactician said the league is still tight with all teams trying hard to continue winning games in a bid to climb to the summit of the Uganda Premier League table.

“Only a few points are in between the table leaders and those at the bottom. I am grateful we got 3 points but we will keep fighting for more points.”

Express coach, Alex Gita however said the bluntness of his strikers cost the team as a number of chances were created only to be missed.

“This is the first game since the league begun that we have not been able to score but I hope to work and perfect it as we go into the next game,” Gita said.

The defeat left Express in the 6th position with 8 points whereas Jinja based BUL are 10th with 5 points on the Azam Uganda Premier League log after 5 games.

KCCA are at the summit of the table with 12 points after beating the Saints one nil at Lugogo on Tuesday evening

Madondo Joel’s misses
Teenage star Joel Madondo carries the biggest share of blames home failing on several occasions to complete the easiest of chances laid up for him to bury home.

The first of such chances drooped on his feet eleven minutes up after a quick telepathic interplay between Otim and Magumba then a low the through ball into the box but he ended tripping on the ball and fell.

Otim put him again with a beautiful low cross that troubled Toha to clear off but again Madondo sent it direct to the waiting sky beyond Anyama’s cross bar.

Coach Isabirye was then forced to pull off Magumba for a more pacy and physical Ibrahim Kazindula. The second half substitute’s first contribution came in the 55th where he twisted and turned Mboowa and advanced into the box to cut in an acute pass which Madondo again failed to strike in just at the goal mouth. Otim picked the pieces and packaged another shot pass but then Toha Rashid cleared off while Madondo was still thinking of a move.

Another substitute Mark Bamukyaye missed a sitter on an empty net from Allan Drajua’s short cross.

Kirinya travel to Kavumba on Saturday to play Soana before honoring Bul FC’s invite at Kakindu in another derby.

Onduparaka FC return to the Greenlight stadium to host Police FC on Saturday.

Gita Blames Referees, Strikers for Express Loss at Wankulukuku

Express head coach, Alex Gitta has  decried the poor standard of the Ugandan referees which he said cost his team as they lost to Jinja based BUL FC at Wankulukuku on Tuesday evening in the Uganda Premier League.

The Red Eagles were tipped one nil, thanks to a Milton Kaliisa strike in the 34th minute and ensured Red Eagles were condemned to their first defeat of the 2016/2017 Uganda Premier League.

However according to Gita, the referees were below par Wankulukuku making a number of mistakes that cost his team on Tuesday evening .

“It seems when the league went into recess, the referee also rested and never trained. I cannot tell why they could not see clear penalties and handballs for us leading to our loss,” he said.

Gita said there is need for the match officials to improve their standards while officiating league matches.

Strikers

The Express tactician also blamed his strikers for failure to convert a number of clear cut chances created into the BUL goal, which cost the home side.

Gita said the team prior to the game had created over 18 chances and converted 6 of these but noted he could not believe the boys failed to deliver  against Jinja based BUL FC.

“We need to address the issue in the next 2 games and see how we can perfect finishing.”

Express FC will visit Kitende based Vipers SC at Nakivubo  before going to Philip Omondi Stadium at Lugogo  to play with the  league champions  KCCA FC in their next 2 games.

The 10th Parliament has paid tribute to the National Football team the Uganda Cranes team, expressing appreciation for making it to the 2017 African Cup of Nations in Gabon.

It has been nearly 38 years since Uganda qualified for the continental competition after defeating Comoros on September 4 despite trying hard in many campaigns.

In a motion tabled by the Ajuri law maker, Hanson Denis Obua, the legislators appreciated the cranes for bringing such a great honour and prestige to the nation of Uganda.

The cranes delegation to Parliament was headed by the FUFA president Magogo and the team coach Milutin Sredojevic ‘Micho’.

Hon. Hanson Denis Obua, the mover of the motion displays a Cranes picture to parliamentarians on Tuesday.

In his submission, the Ajuri county legislator appealed to members to influence increase in budgetary  allocation to the sports sector as the only way of lifting up sports to greater heights in the country.

“Parliament joins other country men in paying tribute to Uganda Cranes for qualifying in Gabon but we like to use this opportunity to call on government to increase the annual budget to facilitate the development and sustainability of sports in Uganda,” Obua said.

Obua further called upon government to table new law that will regulate sports activities in the country.

“The current National Council of Sports Act which was enacted in 1964 is outdated and government needs to table a new legal framework within a period of six months.”

“If within 6 months the Ministry can’t bring the new legal framework, we shall be left with no option but to bring the bill ourselves.”

The motion was then seconded by Mbale Woman representative, Connie Nakayisiki and Makindye West MP, Allan Sewanyana who further expressed worry that the team might fail to perform to its best unless well-funded.

To this effect, Sewanyana called upon members to show their sincere appreciation to the Cranes team by each contributing a sum of Sh500, 000 as a token of appreciation and support in Gabon.

However the motion was not debated after being deffered to Thursday by a decision by members requesting a thorough response from the State Minister of Sports Charles Bakabulinde to the motion and to the poor performance of Uganda’s delegation to Olympics recently.

The match which was played on Saturday saw Kampala legends outsmart the Kabale Legends 4-3 in front of a packed ground.

In the game, KCCA FC attacking left winger Paul Mucuureezi fired in one goal for the Kampala legends in the 29th minute just after he had set Brian Zatwoshaho’s opener.

Two quick first half goals from Omari Mwanahamisi was all that Kilimanjaro Queens needed to strike down Kenya’s starlet at a capacity crowd in the CECAFA women final played at the Fufa technical centre in Njeru near Jinja on Tuesday.

Earlier in the day, host Uganda Crested Cranes endured a difficult moment in front of the home fans going down 4-1 to Ethiopia despite opening the lead early in the game.

The Tanzanians had not lost a single game in the early stages and were conceded dark horses with their ‘not-so-exciting’ shows but just enough to do their job.

Kenya pulled a consolation later in the second half through Christine Nafula but the effort was not enough to guarantee a comeback like in the semi finals against Ethiopia.

Tanzania road to finals.
Tanzania were pooled in group B alongside Rwanda and Ethiopia. They picked their first win in a 3-2 thriller with Rwanda and later a barren draw with Ethiopia. The two tied on all statistics and their group classification was only decided by a coin toss.

The Kilimanjaro queens went on to spank Uganda 4-1 in the last four to set a date with the Starlets who before the finals had not dropped a single point.

Kenya emerged the highest scorers in the tournament punching in a whopping 23 goals which include 11-0 against Zanzibar, 4-0 over Uganda and Burundi then 3-1 in the semi finals against Ethiopia.

While addressing the media on Wednesday at Fufa house headquarters in Mengo during the    weekly press conference, Fufa President Moses Magogo said they will do this as a way to

It was an action parked day at the Luzira prisons stadium mostly orchestrated by supporters of mainly Makerere University who right from the start looked suspicious of causing havoc.

Before the start of the game, supporters from both teams were engaged in a small scuffle characterized by hurling of stones at each other but this was only short lived.

Meanwhile during recess, Makerere supporters hit the centre of the pitch as they chanted in support of their team and provoking their Kyambogo counterparts whom they branded ’high school kids’.

They then ran towards the Kyambogo supporters and a fight ensued.

The two Christian based universities drew 1-1  in the first leg of the quarter finals  with hosts Nkozi taking the lead through Owori Douglas but a second half goal from a penalty salvaged a point for the Mukono based side.

Crested Cranes finished fourth in the CECAFA women’s championship that ended on Tuesday at the Fufa technical center with Tanzania emerging champions.

The Ugandan ladies were thumped 4-1 in the third place playoffs despite taking the lead early in the game. Many pundits and stakeholders opted to pick the positives from the tournament and learn from the insufficiencies.

Crested Cranes professional player Jean Sseninde who turns out for Queens Park Rangers in England believes the tournament was important for the team to gel and gain international experience.

“We didn’t have the best performance as expected but gained quality experience as a team,” Sseninde told ChimpSport.

“Getting five international games in one week has been so great and I believe We shall be strong contenders next time.”

The 23-year old says her debut for the national team in the championship was a ‘very important’ to her future career and is looking to lift the team higher in upcoming games.

“It’s been great being a part of this team, many young girls all over the country would have loved to be a part and are working hard, so to be here means the world to me. Hope next assignments will be better. My aim is to work hard and improve as a player so that I can be able to come back on this team and do better.”

Jean is the only player to have turned out for a national team among her peers at Queens Park Rangers and is promising more.

“My plan is to work hard and make sure I improve because Am a fighter, and when things don’t workout I find a way to make them work in my way. So am aiming to keep working hard for both QPR and my country so that I can retain my spot on this great Ugandan team,” she summed.

Following a successful women’s championship, regional body CECAFA has hinted on including Beach soccer championships in their calender.

The chairman Uganda beach soccer Association Mr. Deo Mutabazi revealed the developments to this website after the completion of the women’s championship.

“Fufa is interested at taking the beach soccer competition to a higher level and that’s why we approached CECAFA secretariat to see how we can include the sport in next year’s schedule,” Mutabazi said.

“It’s not yet a done deal but we are going to discuss it further and the final statement will be made after the next meeting which will be held in Nairobi.”

The domestic federation played a key part to organize the maiden edition of the Malindi beach soccer championship in Kenya this year and Deo is looking at building from that success to organize a better regional competition.

“We had a very good outing in the Malindi tournament and thought it wise to extend the experience and start one for the CECAFA countries,” he added.

Uganda is the only country that currently holds a national men and women’s beach soccer league.

At the hour mark, Bazaar coach Mubarak Kiberu brought on Bashir Ssekimpi for Solomon Ewol and the change paid off dividends nine minutes later scoring the equaliser.

Water coach, Bainomugisha Vialli was pleased with the team’s performance despite throwing away the lead.

“We played better today than the first game against Hope Doves and I believe we shall improve in the next game,” he said.

Water now has one point in two games while Bazaar Holdings have four points after winning 2-1 in their opening game against Airtel Kitara last week.
