Godfrey Lwesibawa is arguably one of the best players in the Azam Uganda premier league this season after incredible performances from the energetic midfielder.

The Sports club Villa sensational midfielder has been in sublime form this season amassing seven assists and getting onto the score sheet once.

Lwesibawa while speaking to ChimpSport indicated that his performance has been as a result of hard work.

“After my first season at SC Villa last campaign, I tasked myself to work harder and improve on my performance and that has kept me pushing for more,” said Lwesibawa.

“Of course I cannot ignore the fact that we have worked together as a team. There is a strong bond within the team so we operate as a unit,” he added.

The creative midfielder also revealed to ChimpSport that his target is to make sure he earns a call to the national team.

“It is a dream that I’m working hard to fulfill. I am the only footballer in my family so getting a call to the national team would be a dream come true,” he said.

“Be it the Cecafa, Chan or the senior national team, my dream is to see that I represent my country at any level,” Lwesibawa noted.

KCCA FC vs Police
Phillip Omondi stadium 4:30pm

Defending champions KCCA football club return to action on Friday at home(Phillip Omondi stadium) against struggling side Police with the aim of returning to winning ways.

KCCA have gone two games without picking maximum points and assistant coach Morley Byekwaso is aware of the pressure from the chasing park and expects a better performance.

” We are quit aware of the pressure from the other teams but we need to keep focused and see that we get a good result against Police,” said Byekwaso.

” Police is a good team, they have experienced players and a great manager but we have had a perfect record at home this season, so we expect to build on that to go past them,” he added.

KCCA have not picked a win in the last two games, losing 2-1 to Vipers and a one all draw against Kirinya Jinja SS giving chance to the chasing park to close in with Vipers drawn on same points as KCCA (19 points).

The return of defender Martin Mpuuga brings relief to KCCA defense according to Byekwaso.

” Of course his return is a timely boost, he have had a lot of injuries previously and we were forced to play Dennis Okot in the central defense against Kirinya Jinja SS but with Mpuuga back, that gives us shape at the back,” said Byekwaso.

However defender Lawrence Kasadha and goalkeeper Douglas Kisembo are still sidelined with injuries.

On the other hand, the corps come into this game on the back of a 3-3 draw against Express last week and  midfielder Osman Mutumba believes they can shock the league leaders.

“Our start has been a tough one but we have working hard to see that we get we hit the ground going and the result against Express gives us a big boost ahead of the encounter against KCCA,” he said.

The last meeting between the two sides came on 2nd April 2016, KCCA FC defeated Police 2-1.

Mike Mutebi’s charges are top of the league table on 19 points same as second placed Vipers while Police on the other hand languish in the drop zone second from the bottom on 7 points.

Uganda Premier League match day ten continues this weekend on Friday and Saturday with three games and one respectively.

SC Villa are on the road for their second journey to Jinja this time at Kakindu to face BUL FC. The Jogoos picked maximum points against Sadolin Paints over a month ago.

The two sides are giants but currently railing on different routes; Bul FC in relegation survival while the Jogoos are on the championship battle.

Bul under coach Frank Anyau’s reign have picked only a paltry seven points from nine games with only one win to boost about. However coach Anyau believes the tram’s fortunes are about to change for the better.

“This years league is generally tough, its hard for every team and that’s why you see a lot of draws. Teams are nearly balanced. We are in an uncompromising position but you will realize its just five points separating us with the sixth place,” Anyau said.

Coach Frank ‘Video’ Anyau was part of the Villa team that hammered BUL FC 2-0 in April at Kakindu.

Statistics favour the Jogoos at Kakindu where they have picked ten points out of a possible fifteen with the hosts managing only one win which came during Kisala’s tenure in September 2013.

Villa interim head coach Shafiq Bisaso started on a positive note with a win over the Saints at Namboole and he hopes to build on that.

“BUL are a good team with experienced players and a good manager but I think we have what it takes to get maximum points against them. The team was motivated with the win against Saints and are ready to face BUL,” Bisaso said.

Villa are fourth with fifteen points from eight games and are just four shy from the log leaders KCCA FC.

AUPL: Kirya Fries Anyau’s BUL

Ambrose Kirya returned to Kakindu stadium with luck gifting Sports Club Villa the second victory on the bounce with a 1-0 advantage over BUL FC in one of the match day ten fixtures played on Friday.

Kirya attacks.
The former JMC Hippos skipper had a relatively positive field day out tormenting Umar Mukobe in the right wing from the onset. The midfielder had a series of unfruitful attacks but the earliest case presented after 21 minutes weaving through the sides and drilled inside the box before slotting a cute through ball to Kasumba who failed to tap in despite a miscommunication between Salim and Kisige.

Kirya’s chance to score came a minute into the added minute of first half. Lwesibawa curled a long one from the centre line aiming at Kasumba but collide with Kisige and an on rushing Wekiya while trying to brush in. The ball bounced away to find a waiting Kirya who hit it with his inside right to the top bar for the goal.

Weak squad.
Bul Entered the game with a depleted squad composition missing three crucial first team players Militon Karisa, Junior Mukisa and Derrick Walulya. They were also forced to make an early substitution after captain Augustine Nsumba failed to recover from an ankle tackle at the half hour.

First goalkeeper on the pecking order Emmanuel Kalyowa was an understudy for Salim Wekiya who conceded cheaply.

Bul had their share of chances to pick up their piece but wasted. The hosts were also unfortunate to be denied in the 83rd when Kisige cleared a lengthy one to the final third picking out Fahad who calmed it down, weaved through the defense, dummied Yasin and buried it in but was surprised to see both flags up on his way to celebrate. It was ruled that Kisige had picked the ball outside the line and therefore BUL awarded goal kick.

The win adds Villa’s account to 18 points, four behind KCCA FC who beat Police 3-0 at Lugogo. BUL remain rooted in the red zone with seven points.

Rugby Uganda cup final
Hima Cement Heathens vs Buzz Pirates – Legends 4:30pm

After shocking Betway Kobs in the semifinals last weekend, Buzz Pirates head into the Uganda cup final in high spirits and belief that they can go past defending champions Hima Cement Heathens.

Record champions Heathens take on a rejuvenated Pirates in this year’s Uganda Cup final at the Legends rugby ground on Saturday.

Halfback Conrad Wanyama who orchestrated the damage in the triumph against Kobs is confident his team can defeat Heathens to lift the title.

“Of course we are here not by mistake but because we have worked hard to reach the finals. Heathens are a good side but we are determined and motivated to go past them,” he said.

This is the first time, Pirates are playing in the finals in five years. The last time they were in the finals was in 2011 and they were battered 29-05 by Kobs.

On the other hand, Heathens look at today’s final as the only realistic chance to lift a title this year after losing the league and 7s titles to bitter rivals Betway Kobs.

However Phillip Wokorach has warned his teams of complacency ahead of the final.

“This is the only chance for us to win anything this year but we should not undermine Pirates, we need to play out our hearts and take the game serious,” cautioned Wokorach.

Heathens defeated Toyota Buffaloes 30-15 in the semifinals last week to reach the finals and will be seeking for the 11th Uganda cup title. Pirates on the other hand shocked Kobs 27-22 to reach the finals and will be searching for their second title since their maiden triumph in 2007.

In the third place playoff played on Friday, Betway Kobs defeated Toyota Buffaloes 18-12. The first game on Saturday will see Gulu Elephants take on Rams in the shield cup final.

We Were Lucky Against BUL, Says Villa Coach Bisaso

$

SC Villa coach Shafiq Bisaso has termed his team’s victory against BUL FC as a ‘lucky’ one. The Jogoos defeated the self proclaimed ‘Eastern Giants’ courtesy of Ambrose Kirya’s late first half goal.

“I am happy with the result though it was not the kind of performance I expected,” Bisaso told ChimpSport.

“We are content though the goal was a lucky one. 50% of football is luck and if you’re lucky you win the game.”

Bisaso has now maintained a perfect record in his first two games in charge since assuming the head coach role from his former boss Deo Serwadda.

He acknowledged the opposition staged up by the home team and admits his boys struggled to find their rhythm throughout the game.

“They presented a tough challenge with their physical style of play and the field didn’t do us any better. The pitch wasn’t in good shape. All in all I admit we struggled upfront but nevertheless the win covers up. We’re in a building stage but we’ll get better as time goes.”

Vitalis Tabu
Rumours had it that midfielder Vitalis Tabu who is the club’s joint top scorer (with four goals) was on suspension for returning late from Arua after their loss to Onduparaka but the coach calms it down saying the player was just sick. Tabu didn’t feature in the win against Saints and was only introduced on the 54th minute on Friday.

“He has been sick that’s why he missed our last game and we needed to gradually bring him back to his best. That’s the reason he came in late,” Bisaso added.

Villa return to action on Saturday 29th in the derby with Express FC at Nakivubo.

Anyau: Referee Bakisula Must be Banned

$

BUL FC head coach Frank ‘Video’ Anyau has blamed his team’s 1-0 home loss to Sports Club Villa on Friday to poor officiation.

Ambrose Kirya struck in the last minute of the added time after a clumsy mistake in the BUL defence.

The centre referee was Ali Bakisula assisted by Isa Masembe and Ochom as the fourth official.

“The referee who officiated the game between Kirinya versus KCCA FC was suspended for 365 days. I am also waiting for the outcome of this one,” Anyau exclusively told ChimpSport.

“They should not play around with President Magogo’s job by staining Fufa’s work with their shoddy officiation. Some of these referees need to be banned for life. Even the fans saw and started pelting stones. Our fans are not used to that kind of behaviour.”

The game was halted twice in both halves after a section of rowdy home fans started pelting stones to the second assistant official but Anyau argues that it’s the referee’s poor decision that lead to such devious deeds.

“When you see them (fans) behaving like that then it means they have also seen it. You can see even after the game, fans still attacking the officials. It means they aren’t happy,” Anyau argued.

This unfateful event follows a series in which fans have been interfering with matches and to some extent assault match officials. The recent occurred at Bugembe where a KCCA FC fan was banned for beating up a referee and Kirinya fined after their fans rounded up the said fan.

Referee William Oloya was later suspended by the Fufa referees standing committee. Anyau hopes for the same measure to be taken against Bakisula.

“I am waiting for the federation to act. The referee was not fair and he is supposed to face action. These are things that peg our game.”

Coach Sam Timbe resigns at Police FC

Experienced Caf A license coach Sam Time has relinquished his position at Police FC due to a series of poor results in the Azam Uganda Premier League.

In his submission, Timbe states that he discovered the players are not devoting to the team, a reason he attaches to his recent renewed contract.

“I humbly and officially tender in my resignation as POLICE FC head coach,” Timbe noted in his resignation letter which ChimpSport accessed.

“I have discovered that the club players’ undeserving low morale which has led to continued poor results on the pitch is attached to my presence and particularly my recently renewed contract.”

Police FC have accumulated only seven points out of ten games played so far with a single win, four draws and four losses. The club sits second bottom in the log.

“It’s therefore, deserving that I pave way for a new face that can assist in uplifting the players’ morale and guide club out the danger of relegation to the lower division.”

Timbe won the Uganda premier league with the law enforcers in 2005 and a subsequent CECAFA club championship the same fete attained at local giants SC Villa.

He has also guided Tanzanian giants Yanga and Rwanda’s Atraco to a regional and league titles respectively.

After several months of negotiations, Onduparaka FC goalkeeping coach Moses Oloya and the Somali football association have reached an agreement for the coach to join their national team on same capacity, ChimpSport has exclusively learnt.

Our source also reveals that the goalkeeper trainer was joining the team as part of the staff to support Matia Lule who has been selected for head coach position.

“We wanted quality coaches who could fit in our strategy of youth development and building a strong national team and we zeroed in on Lule and Oloya,” our source revealed.

Oloya joined the caterpillars on Monday 29th August after parting ways with The Saints for a reportedly season long deal but has ditched the club for the more lucrative job.

“He arrived in Mogadishu today (Sunday) morning ready for finalization of the deal,” the source added.

Lule uncertainty.

“We expected (coach) Lule to arrive together with Oloya but he didn’t but the FA is trying to reach him and figure out the problem though we expect him anytime soon. The deal delayed to allow him (Lule) take a one month coaching course in Germany.”

National pool championship finals
Sula Matovu 7-5 Fred Namanya

The record still stands. No one has ever defended the national pool championship title and it was the same case this year as Sula Matovu got his name onto the winners list.

The championship that cued off on Saturday morning at the MTN Arena in Lugogo saw the defending champion Amos Ndyagumanawe face an early exit after losing 3-1 to Fred “Bonde” Namanya in the opening game.

The day however belonged to Sula Matovu who beat competition from 127 other players to be crowned the 2016 national pool champion.

Matovu who plays for CKI club came into the championship as seed two, defeated 2009 winner Fred Namanya 7-5 to clinch the title.

In a thrilling final Namanya looked the part, claiming the first frame with ease before Matovu regrouped to win the second game. The trend kept on until the sixth frame with game tied at 3-3.

Matovu took the lead for the first time in the 7th game and went ahead to claim two more frames to extend his lead to 6-3. With the game almost destined for Matovu’s way, Namanya remained resilient and claimed the next two games to draw the game at 6-5 and excite a fully packed MTN Arena.

Matovu however took the 12th frame to win 7-5 and be crowned the winner. He had defeated the 2014 champion, Fahad Ssewankambo 5-3 in the semifinals.

Matovu drove away with a brand new Grande Mark 11, UGX 2M and two pool tables.

Fufa Big League
Maroons 0-0 Ndejje University

The top of the table clash between Maroons and Ndejje University in the Elgon group played on Sunday at Luzira prisons ground ended in a goalless draw with both teams failing to produce a spark.

Both teams came into the game level on points (13 points) but Ndejje had played six games, one more than Maroons after a 4-2 win against Kyambogo United on Thursday.

In a dull opening half, on form striker Patrick Kaddu got the first chance of the game in the 10th minute but his effort sailed above the goal.

Ibrahim Kongo too came close to scoring at the half hour mark when Ronald Kikonyogo laid him up with a pinpoint pass but his feeble shot was collected easily by Ndejje University goalkeeper Hannington Sssebwato.

The rest of half time failed to produce a spark and both teams went into halftime leveled.

Ronald Kikonyogo had an attempt on goal two minutes after recess driving through Ndejje defence but failed to put the ball beyond Ssebwato.

Ndejje called for the first substitution introducing Onek Alfred for Matovu Sam. The Lions took charge in the second period with second half substitute Onek causing trouble to Maroons’ defence.

Asaph Mwebaze also called for changes with Kikonyogo paving way for Musa Ssali while Peter Otai and Maxwell Okello came on for Patrick Kaddu and Godwin Kitagenda respectively.

Defender Eddie Kapampa almost snatched a win for the prison warders at the death when he pounced on loose ball after a goal melee but failed to find the target facing an empty net.

The result means both teams maintain their stay at the apex of the Elgon group on 14 points but Maroons lead on goal difference.

Asaph Mwebaze, the Maroons tactician said it was a fair result for both teams.

“Of course it was a top of the table clash and any point from such a game would be important. We did not play to our best abilities but the point we got was vital,” he said after the game.
