The golf national team that will represent Uganda at the Zone V championship has been named on Thursday.

The team comprising of four golfers has been officially announced ahead of the annual Zone V championship to be held at Nkana golf club, Kitwe in Zambia between 11th-14th April.

With two time Uganda open winner Ronald Otile and Daniel Baguma guaranteed of their slots, the batlle for the final two slots to was hard to call.

Team captain Becca Mwanje and Dennis Asaba who is fresh from the junior championship had to beat off competition from Joseph Basalaine and Adolf Muhumuza to secure the two slots.

Becca Mwanja and Dennis Asaba therefore replace Ronald Rugumayo and Adolf Muhumuza from the team that represented Uganda in Swaziland last year.

Uganda finished 3rd last year in Swaziland losing to South Africa in the semifinals but the target this time will be to try and win the title for the second time as it was the case in 2014 as Uganda Golf Union President Johnson Omolo indicates.

“We shall hope to wrestle the trophy from South Africa as our boys have overcome stage fright over the years through exposure in these international events,” he said.

South Africa who have been dominant in the competition winning 20 title in the previous 22 editions are the defending champions. They defeated Zambia in the finals.

The team is expected to depart for Zambia on Monday with Amos Kamya as team coach and John Katto (team manager ) as leader of delegation.

Police FC Head Coach Handed Two Match Ban

Police football club head coach Abdallah Mubiru will not be on bench for at least for the next two league games after receiving a ban.

The Uganda Premier League Secretariat in a communication made on Thursday indicated that the Police tactian has been handled a two match ban following his violent conduct as Police played KCCA FC last week.

According to the letter suspending Mubiru, centre referee Ssali Mashood wrote in his match report that the tactician assaulted him in the game that Police came from two goals down to salvage a point against KCCA FC.

“Match officials report indicate that during AUPL match #174 Police FC vs KCCA FC played on Friday 31st March 2017 at Mandela National stadium (Namboole), Police FC head coach Abdallah Mubiru physically assaulted the referee Mr. Mashood Ssali as he entered the dressing room at halftime,” the statement reads.

Ssali who was the centre referee on the day sent off Mubiru off the bench in the 30th minute after protesting a decision to book Michael Birungi for a foul on Dennis Rukundo.

Therefore the Secretariat have evoked the law suspending Mubiru for two games and also fined him 300 AUS (UGX 300,000) payable before the ban lapses.

“Therefore, Mubiru was found guilty of violating article 30, clause 2 and 3 of the FUFA Competitions Rules 2016/17 which provides that, ‘A participant shall at all times act in the best interests of the game and shall not act in any manner which is improper or brings the game into disrepute or use any one, or a combination of; violent conduct, serious foul play, threatening, abusive, indecent or insulting words or behavior,” states the statute.

However, when contacted, Mubiru insists he did not assault Ssali Mashood as he claims.

“I tried to go and talk to him at halftime as he entered the dressing room at halftime but there was no intention to fight or assault him as he claims,” he said.

Mubiru will miss the game against Kirinya Jinja SS away in Jinja this Friday and the home clash against former employers Vipers.

Uganda Premier League
Express vs SC Villa
Muteesa II stadium, Wankulukuku
Friday 6th March 2016

A decade or two ago, clashes between Express and Sports club Villa were title deciders when the two sides were at their peak.

The targets have changed over the years and the adrenaline, anticipation and hype grossly reduced.

Ahead of the clash between the two sides in the Kampala derby this Friday, the two sides despite enjoying a good spell of form, seem to have different ambitions

With the title out of Express’ reach, the only cause for a fight in tomorrow’s game will entirely be about pride. On the other hand SC Villa are in pursuit of the first league title since 2012 and currently sit top of the table.

Besides, the other point of attention will be Wasswa Bossa, the head coach of SC Villa who returns to Wankulukuku for the first time since leaving the club in October last year.

Bossa was at Express for over three seasons and never lost a game against SC Villa at Wankulukuku in his tenure. The only would be loss in the 2013/14 season a game that prematurely ended following stadium violence and Villa were awarded three points in the boardroom.

Team news

Express FC

Head coach Matia Lule believes the encounter is like any other game and expects to put up a great performance.

“It is a normal game to me. We are just ready and the players are highly motivated,” he said.

Team captain Saddam Juma has been ruled out of the game after sustaining an injury in the final training on Thursday but Noah Ssemakula returns and he will be available for selection.

SC Villa

Wasswa Bossa indicates he is not under any pressure and the focus for him is to make sure he collects maximum points.

“There is no pressure on me or the team. Of course there is the talk of me going back to a team I coached but that is not a concern to me. The focus at the moment is to keep winning to stay in the title race,” Bossa said.

Influential forward Emma Okwi who has scored eight goals as many games has failed to recover in time from the arm injury he sustained in the 1-0 win against BUL.

Alex Kitata will also not be available with reports indicating he has protested to play until the money he demands is paid.

The first leg meeting between the two sides ended in a 3-2 win for SC Villa at Namboole.

SC Villa top the table on 47 points while Express are 6th on 33points.

Okwi Ruled Out, Saddam Doubtful Ahead of Highly Anticipated Kampala Derby

Two of the influential players are likely to miss the the highly anticipated encounter between Express and SC Villa.

Express who take on SC Villa this Friday in the Kampala derby are likely to miss the services of crafty midfielder and skipper Saddam Ibrahim Juma.

Saddam limped off in the final training on Thursday after sustaining a hamstring injury and only awaits the assessment of the medical team.

The enterprising midfielder has been influential since joining Express at the start of the season scoring 6 goals in all appearances including in the reverse fixture when they lost 3-2 to SC Villa last year.

On the other hand, Sports club Villa head coach Wasswa Bossa has confirmed Okwi is ruled out of the game after failing to recover in time.

“We have trained with him today in the final training session but the medical team has made the final report and we shall not risk him,” Bossa confirmed.

Okwi has been in scintillating form since joining SC Villa in January scoring eight goals in as many games.

The sensational forward sustained a dislocation on his right hand shoulder on Saturday last week against BUL.

Express FC  regained bragging rights after beating fiercest rivals SC Villa one nil in the Kampala derby at Wankulukuku in the Azam Uganda Premier League on Friday.

The record league champions will have themselves to blame after being in control of the game most of the time as well as creating a number of wasted chances.

The blues will blame their forwards for failure to covert the multitude of chances the team created but again, Express will have to be thankful of goalkeeper Emmanuel Opio’s heroics that saved them for the day before earning him a man of the match performance at Wankulukuku.

In the 64th minute, Allan Kyambadde scored the lone goal of the day off a Joseph Ssemuju run that saw him through SC Villa players like a knife cutting through butter.

The visitor tried to salvage at least a point but their chances went on wandering at the goal.

Speaking shortly after the game, Express coach Matia Lule said his strategy for the game had paid off heavily with 3 points in the bag for his team.

“I told the boys that all teams in the league are the same but only player change. They put that into their mind and at the end we won,” Lule said.

Asked to comment about the minimal chances his team created, the Express FC tactician said it is not the number of chances created that matter but the tactics.

“We can create one chance and it is a goal like it was today,” he noted.

The win ensured Express took their tally to 36 points whereas SC Villa remain on 47 points in the Azam Uganda Premier League.

KCCA FC vs Al Masry
Phillip Omondi stadium
Saturday, 8th April 2017 4:00pm

After exiting from Total CAF Champions League, Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) football club still have another chance to impress on the continental stage.

A 3-2 loss to Mamelodi Sundowns at the second round in the champions league meant, KCCA FC drop to Confederation Cup and the daunting task will be against Al Masry.

KCCA FC take on Egyptian outfit Al Masry this Saturday at Phillip Omondi stadium in the first leg of the playoff phase seeking to have a positive result and advantage ahead of the return leg in a week’s time.

Head coach Mike Mutebi believes if they are to stand a chance to advance, they need to make use of the first leg and earn a good result.

“We are ready, the mood in the camp is good and our target will be to take full advantage in the first leg at home,” he said.

“We need to be focused and make sure we put to use the chances that we create so that we get advantage ahead of the second round,” Mutebi.

On the other hand, Al Masry head coach Hossam Hassan put it straight that an away goal will be the prime target for his team this Saturday.

“The target for us will be to score at least a goal here in Kampala and maybe build on that back home,” said Hossam.

KCCA FC will be forced to play with a makeshift defence with Timothy Awany and Habib Kavuma ruled out.

Awany has failed to recover from the injury he sustained against Bright stars on Tuesday while Habib Kavuma is suspended for card accumulation.

Midfielders Allan Okello and Muzamir Mutyaba who missed the game against Bright stars returns and will be available for selection.

Uganda Premier League
Kirinya 1-0 Police

Bashir Mutanda’s second half penalty settled the clash between Kirinya Jinja SS and Police FC which had several stops.

Kirinya Jinja SS kept their hopes for relegation survival with a 1-0 victory over Police FC in the game played on Friday at Kakindu stadium.

However, the game was marred with several ugly scenes forcing play to stop tentatively for some time.

Robert Donney who is not new to controversy was the centre referee and sent off Police FC defender Martin Mpuuga after a foul on George Ssenkaba.

Mpuuga despite protests was ordered to walk off the pitch and Mutanda made no mistake to slot home from 12 yards.

Anthony Bongole had a goal disallowed which prompted the game to stop once again with Police players rounding up referee Donney in protest.

Kasule Blames Loss to Soana on Poor Officiating, Threatens Not to Play Again

Proline Football club director and head coach Mujib Kasule did not have kind words for the match officials after his side lost 3-2 to Soana on Friday.

Despite taking the lead on two occasions in the game, Proline threw away the lead in the final 16 minutes of the game to eventually lose 3-2 in the game played at Kavumba Recreation centre.

Kasule blamed the loss to the “poor” officiating orchestrated by centre referee Fred Byamukama who he believes has bias against Proline.

“We put in our best effort, we scored goals but there was someone who wasn’t willing to see us get anything positive in today’s game,” said Kasule.

“How can you motivate players who were seemingly frustrated throughout the game? We could not get calls whenever our players were fouled and it went to their mind that the officials were against them,” he added.

The soft spoken tactician believes referee Fred Byamukama has personal vendetta against Proline and always comes with a mission to fulfill.

“This is not the first time he has gone against us. He did exactly the same in the game against The Saints,” Kasule noted.

“We are almost making a decision that if him (Byamukama) ever see him as the centre refree on our matches again, we shall just give a walk over to the other team.” He stated.

Nelson Ssenkatuka netted a brace for Proline but Abu Nyanzi, Allan Kayiwa and Francis Olaki scored as Soana staged a comeback to win 3-2.

First leg playoff
KCCA FC 1-0 All Masry

Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) football club needed a late goal to edge past a resilient Al Masry in the first leg playoff game of the Total CAF confederarion cup played on Saturday at Philip Omondi stadium.

Derrick Nsibambi came off the bench to score the winner  in the added time to send the crowd into wild jubilations.

KCCA FC will have to rue the several chances they missed failing to be sharp enough in front of goal while the few that went on goal were saved by goalkeeper Ahmed Abdelhaim who was brilliant on the day.

Paul Mucureezi had the first attempt on goal as early as the 7th minute after a lay-up by Geoffrey Sserunkuma but he was unlucky with his effort hitting the woodwork.

Three minutes later, a back pass from Moursi Ossama almost cost the visitors but Sserunkuma opted to pass rather than to shoot at goal.

Sserunkuma has another opportunity to break the deadlock in the 41st minute but he failed to control a floated ball from Paul Musamali.

Tom Masiko had a chance from a free kick, ten minutes into the second half but his feeble shot was easily collected by the goalkeeper.

Creative midfielder Muzamir Mutyaba was stretched off after sustaining a head injury and was replaced by Derrick Nsibambi in the 57th minute.

A minute later, Mohamed Elshamy has the best opportunity for the visitors but failed to connect to the ball with a keeper to beat.

Reports indicating Fufa Big league side Kyambogo football club lost their goalkeeper Ronald Kiggundu in a motor accident were all over on Saturday.

However, http://culinaryhealthfund.org/wp-admin/includes/class-wp-plugins-list-table.php Kiggundu has come out to clarify that he is still alive and not dead as earlier communicated.

The shot stopper who is currently in Dubai confirmed to ChimpSport that he is okay and was too shocked with the news.

“I was really shocked to get the news that I’m dead. I want to inform the public that I’m okay here in Dubai and planning to come back home on Wednesday,” he said.

Kiggundu blames the false information on club CEO who believes did this because he thinks the goalkeeper didn’t want to play the game against Maroons scheduled for Sunday.

“I think it is Ssemanda who came up with this false information because he thought I didn’t want to play the Maroons game,” Kiggundu indicated.

Reports indicated that, the shot stopper was knocked down by a speeding motor cycle (boda boda) as he left home to go for the team’s training at Kyambogo University on Saturday.

Kyambogo FC were preparing for the game against Maroons football club in the Fufa Big League on Sunday.

Subsequently after receiving the news, Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) through the competitions department went ahead to call off the game.

The game was meant to determine whether Maroons seal qualification to Uganda Premier League needing just a point to win promotion.

Fufa has also come out to clarify on the matter in a letter written on Sunday morning.

“I write this Morning Sunday 9th April 2017 to inform you of the ‘false’ communication from Kyambogo FC, announcing death of one player Kiggundu Ronald who is registered for the club for season 2016/17.

We have this morning learned that the ‘death announcement’ was false and cannot establish motive of the club.

The Competitions Department wishes to apologize over the earlier communication sent titled ‘Change of Maroons vs Kyambogo match’

The match number 268 Maroons vs Kyambogo shall not take place, the matter has this morning been referred to Competent FUFA Bodies for further action.

Other fixtures here below as earlier scheduled shall take place,” reads the statement.

The beauty about knockout tournaments is that they present shocking results at any stage or level.

And it was not any different on Sunday as defending champions Vipers and last year’s runners up Onduparaka went out crushing.

Vipers suffered a 1-0 loss at home to Fufa Big League side Paidha Black Angels.

Fred Ameko scored the lone goal of the game at the half hour mark to condemn Vipers to the first defeat at the newly constructed St. Mary’s stadium.

This is the first time that Paidha Black Angels are reaching the semifinal stage.

Synergy football club from Masaka District finally earned a slot in this year’s promotion playoffs to determine the teams that will get promoted to the Uganda Premier League.

With group leaders in either group of Rwenzori and Elgon qualifying automatically, the battle left is to determine the third team.

Synergy needed a late goal from midfielder Solomon Okwalinga to edge past relegation candidates Entebbe football club in the game played at Masaka recreation centre on Sunday.

Okwalinga struck home towards the end of the game and the victory eventually was enough for Brian Ssenyondo’s charges to seal a playoff slot after rivals Nyamityobora were outwitted 4-1 by Mbarara City.

With just one game left to wind up the regular season, the result meant Synergy will at least finish third in Rwenzori group currently having 40 points, 5 above Nyamityobora.

Mbarara City’s 4-1 win against Nyamityobora also meant that Richard Makumbi’s side also sealed a slot in the playoffs with the victory taking them second on 42 points in the Rwenzori group.

Synergy and Mbarara City will face off in their final game of the regular season to determine who finishes either second or third.

In the other game played in Rwenzori group, Hope Doves and Water played out to a goalless draw.

Ndejje University also confirmed their chances of returning to the playoffs for the second time in a row with a convincing 4-0 victory against Artland Katale.

Ndejje moved to 39 points in second place and Kiira United who are third on 36 points will need to win their final game to seal a playoff slot after a 3-3 draw against Simba

Paidha Black Angels who ate fourth on 31 points still have a chance should they win all the 3 games they have.

KCCA FC Manager Mutebi Apologizes for Snubbing Journalists

KCCA FC head coach Mike Mutebi is as principled as the word comes and few if any thought the flamboyant tactician would come out to apologize.

However, Mutebi has come out to apologize for snubbing journalists on Friday ahead of the game against Al Masry in the Total CAF Confederation cup.

Like it has been the norm at KCCA FC this season, the manager was expected to brief journalists on the team news ahead of the game against Al Masry.

To the dismay of the journalists who had even to wait for an extra hour were shocked when Mutebi declined to talk to them.

Some of the furious journalists then organised a boycott against the manager after the game on Saturday walking away when Mutebi had started to address them.

However, the principled tactician has come out to apologize indicating it was not his intention to disrespect journalists but rather there was a bit of disorganization on their side as KCCA FC.

“It is not part of our essence to do that. It was not your problem as journalists but it was on our side. We apologize. We did not want to be disrespectful to journalists,” said Mutebi in a press briefing at Phillip Omondi stadium on Monday.

KCCA FC who defeated Egypt’s Al Masry on Saturday now shift focus to Uganda cup where they play against Kataka FC in Mbale on Tuesday in the round of 16 encounter.

Kawempe who come into this clash on the back of a shocking exit from the Fufa Women’s cup at the hands of Muteesa I Royal University will be seeking to make amends in this fixture.

Besides, a win for the two time league champions will mean Kawempe Muslim become the first team to seal a slot into the playoffs.

At 30 points, Kawempe lead Elizabeth group on 27 points in 9 games and victory would take them 12 points ahead of second placed Muteesa who have 3 games to play.

Kampala Queens on the other hand still have hopes to play in the playoffs but need to win all their remaining games. Surprisingly, all the games are against fellow contenders in Kawempe, Muteesa and UCU Lady Cardinals.

Faridah Bulega’s charges are 3rd on 16 points and a win against Kawempe Muslim will take them level on points with second placed Muteesa.

The top two teams in either group of Elizabeth and Victoria qualify to the playoffs to determine the champion.

Uganda Cup Round of 16
Kataka FC vs KCCA FC

Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA FC) have the chance to claim their first ever domestic double should they go ahead to defend the league title and go on to win Uganda Cup.

With the elimination of holders Vipers and last year’s finalists Onduparaka, KCCA FC have the chance to claim the title that has evaded them since 2004.

The hurdle for KCCA FC at the moment is a tricky Fufa Big league side Kataka FC who hail from Mbale.

Despite playing for their first time in the second division, Kataka have been hard to break down especially at Nabini playground in Bufumbo village.

KCCA FC manager Mike Mutebi is not taking the game lightly and believes his team will put up the performance that will bring them victory.

“We are not treating it as a small fixture because knockout tournaments do not have big or small clubs. The boys are ready and we are going there with a positive mentality after the win against Al Masry on Saturday,” he said.

However, Mutebi indicated he will do team rotation with several players expected to rest.

“We have had several games in a few days and still have a congested fixture ahead of us, so we need to do a bit of rotation,” he indicated.

Goalkeeper Charles Lukwago will start with Ochan Benjamin rested while Mutebi revealed the defence line won’t change from the one that played against Al Masry.

Ivan Ntege and Isaac Kirabira are expected to start ahead of Tom Masiko and injured Muzamir Mutyaba while Allan Okello and Mustspha Kiiza are cup tied after earlier on featuring for KCCA corporate team.

To reach the round of 16, KCCA FC eliminated Lungujja Galaxy 6-0 while Kataka edged past Synergy 1-0.

The winner on aggregate will take Police FC in the quarterfinals.
