Fufa Women’s Cup: UCU Lady Cardinals Seek Solace Against Olila

After losing the Fufa Women elite league title in terrible fashion last week, Uganda Christian University (UCU) Lady Cardinals have yet another opportunity to claim silverware this season.

The University side host Olila Women’s football club this Friday in Mukono in the Fufa Women’s cup semifinal and the hopes are high that they will reach the finals and go on to win the title.

Team captain, Maureen Kinavudori believes they have put the defeat to Kawempe behind and are ready to take on Olila.

“It was painful the way we lost in the final but that is behind us for now, we are quite aware of what is at stake and we are prepared for the challenge,” she said before asserting that she expect a tough challenge from Olila.

“They are a good team with a couple of talented players and I expect a tough challenge from them but we are equally a good side and we shall play our best,” Kinavudori added.

Olila on the other hand finished fourth in the league in their first time in the playoffs and crafty midfielder Rita Nabossa believes this could spur them ahead of the encounter against UCU Lady Cardinals.

“We probably wished to be in the finals but again we cannot frown on finishing fourth. This will motivate us more going into the game against UCU,” She noted.

Already, Gafford Ladies are into the finals after defeating Muteesa I Royal University 2-1 on Thursday and now await the winner between UCU and Olila.

The final of the inaugural women’s cup is scheduled to take place on 18th June at the Madibira playground in Busia district.

Olila Women football club put up a resilient performance to defeat UCU Lady Cardinals and book a berth in the finals of the inaugural Fufa Women’s Cup.

Despite throwing away a 2 goal lead in normal time, Olila had goalkeeper Karungi Vanessa to thank after his antics in the penalty shootout.

In a thrilling encounter played in Mukono, UCU Lady Cardinals came from two goals down to draw 2-2 in normal time but eventually lost in the shootout 2-1.

As early as the 4th minute, lanky forward Sharon Achieng put visitors Olila ahead with a calmly finish that went past goalkeeper Cissy Nakigumba.

Cissy Nantongo doubled the lead for Olila in the 23rd minute as they proved rampant against a seemingly disorganized UCU Lady Cardinals.

Two minutes to the half hour mark, Esther Kadondi cut the deficit by half as the University side grew back into the game.

The home side returned even better after recess and levelled matters through defender Mercy Nabulobi

The right back converted from the spot kick after forward Millicet Mwanzi had been hacked down by Wilmer Nantumbwe in the forbidden area.

With just two minutes to the end of normal time, Olila opted for a change with goalkeeper Lucy Angeo paving way for Karungi Vanessa.

There was a bit of delay after normal time with Olila insisting they were not aware of extra time. However, they eventually complied and allowed to play.

There were no scores in extra time and the game had to be decided on spot kicks.

Karungi proved her prowess saving three penalties in the shootout and Olila went ahead to win  2-1.

The Soroti based side will now rake on Gafford Ladies in the finals slated for 18th June at Madibira playground in Busia district.

African Cup of Nations Qualifiers 2019
Group L
Cape Verde vs Uganda
Estadio Varzea 8:30pm

The jubilations and hangover about playing in the 2017 African Cup of Nations in Gabon is finally over and another hurdle for Uganda starts afresh.

After 38 years of absence from the AFCON finals, Uganda Cranes now embark on another campaign to play at the next African Cup of Nations.

Uganda Cranes open their account in the bid to return to the continental showpiece with an away fixture against Cape Verde Island this Saturday at the Estadio de Verzea in Praia City.

Team coach Milutin “Micho” Sredojevic has put the target straight that he wants a positive start to make sure the cranes stay on the course of qualifying for the 2019 African Cup of Nations.

“The preparations have been smooth and the build-up games we have had have helped in giving us a reflection of what we expect to put up,” he stated.

“The target ahead of us is to make sure we start the campaign on an impressive note because that will give us momentum in the next games,” Micho added.

Micho however still has concerns about the striking department as the Cranes start life without energetic forward Geoffrey Massa who retired from the national team.

The two build up games that Uganda has played ahead of the Cape Verde game ended in barren stalemates (against Ethiopia and Senegal).

The search for goals will now be bestowed upon Emmanuel Okwi whose performance on the national team has been hot and cold.

The other strikers in camp include youngsters Derrick Nsibambi, Mohammad Shaban and veteran striker Geoffrey Sserunkuma who scored against Cape Verde in 2006 at Namboole.

Without several occasional names like Luwagga Kizito, Moses Oloya, Geoffrey Kizito, Isaac Isinde, Joseph Ochaya and Dennis Iguma among others, Micho has given opportunity to new and untested blood.

Isaac Muleme, Derrick Nsibambi Bernard Muwanga and Robert Kakeeto who plies his trade at Danish side Aalborg are all part of the team.

There is perhaps worry about the preparation of the team with majority of the players arriving in Cape Verde on match day (Saturday morning).

Uganda is in group L alongside Cape Verde, Lesotho and Tanzania.

Probable starting XI

Dennis Onyango, Nicholas Wadada, Geoffrey Walusimbi, Jjuko Murushid, Timothy Awany, Hassan Wasswa, Isaac Muleme, Khalid Aucho, Geoffrey Sserunkuma, Miya Farouk, Emma Okwi

Elgon Cup: Pride, Revenge at Stake as Uganda Takes on Kenya

2017 Elgon Cup
Uganda vs Kenya
Legends Rugby club 4pm

Encounters between Uganda and Kenya go beyond just being mere games. Be it cricket, football, rugby name it, there is usually much to fight for.

And it will not be any different this Saturday as the Uganda rugby cranes take on eternal rivals and neighbours Kenya at Legends Rugby club, Lugogo in the first leg of the 2017 Elgon Cup.

Uganda comes into this clash seeking for vengeance against the Kenyan Simbas that have been too dominant in the annual contest.

Last year, Uganda was terribly humbled at home with a 48-10 loss to Kenya in their own backyard and this is still fresh into several rugby enthusiasts mind.

Assistant coach, Joseph Sseguya believes they have the opportunity and ability to go past their arch rivals in the Saturday’s clash.

“They have been dominant in the past years but that does not mean we are weak. We have assembled a great team and this will be a chance for us to stop them,” said Seguya.

There is a boost for Uganda with the timely return of Justin Kimono who has been on the sidelines with injuries for the last two years.

Kimono is best remembered for his try against Kenya that made him write his name on the big stage.

However, several players have been sidelined for this duel. Former Rugby Cranes captain Mathias Ochwo, Ronald Musajjagulanyago, 2015 half back pairing of Kevin Makmot and Chris Lubanga, Ramathan Govule, James Injongat, Arthur Mpande, Gerald Ssewankambo, John Wandicho and Eric Kasiita all are not part of the team.

The two teams will meet again on 24th June in Nairobi with the tie serving as African Gold Cup game.

Probable line up

Asuman Mugerwa, Alex Mubiru, Brian Odong, Charles Uhuru, Robert Aziku, Brian Asaba, Scot Oluoch, Marvin Odong, Ivan Kirabo, Ivan Magomu, James Odong, Pius Ogena, Michael Wokorach, Lawrence Ssebuliba, Philip Wokorach.

Uganda Cup Countdown (6days): Paidha Black Angels Road to the Final

Paidha Black Angels defied odds to reach their first ever final in the Uganda Cup. The Zombo district based side became the second team from Fufa Big League to reach the finals (after Onduparaka last year).

With just six days to the highly anticipated final between Paidha Black Angels and KCCA FC, Chimp Reports continues with the extensive analysis and countdown to the final of the 43rd edition.

In today’s article, we look at Paidha Black Angels road to the final.

Round of 64

Just like every Fufa Big League team, Paidha Black Angels started their campaign at this stage.

They had to make a daunting trip to Muteesa II stadium, Wankulukuku in Kampala to take on Hope Doves.

The game ended in a 3-3 draw in normal time and had to be decided on a penalty shootout.

Paidha eventually won the tense shootout 4-3 to progress to the next round.

Round of 32

The draws pitted Paidha Black Angels against Lira’s Bright Light and still the angels had to travel away.

There were no scores after normal time and thus, the tie had to be decided on spot kicks. The Zombo based side won 5-4 on penalties.

Round of 16

Playing their third game in Uganda Cup, Paidha Black Angels still had the draws pit them against Western regional side Fort Boda Boda Football club still away from home.

Paidha had to endure another long trip from Zombo to Buhinga stadium in Fort Portal town.

The game ended in a one all draw in normal time. And like the trend had been at the previous rounds, Paidha still won the penalty contest 2-1 to book a berth in the quarterfinals.

Quarterfinals

At this stage, Paidha were drawn against defending champions Vipers and still, they had to play away from home.

The Black Angels defied odds edging past holders Vipers and condemning them to their first defeat at the newly constructed St.Mary’s stadium.

Fred Amako scored the lone goal to send Paidha Black Angels to the semifinals.

Semifinals

Paidha Black Angels drew Sadolin Paints in the semifinals. Being a two legged affair, Paidha hosted the first leg at the Bar Okoro stadium in Zombo district.

Emmanuel Rubangakene and Okumu scored to help Paidha win the first leg 2-0.

The return leg at Namboole ended 2-1 in favour of Sadolin Paints but Fred Amaku’s away goal proved vital helping Paidha Black Angels progress to their first ever final 3-2 on aggregate.

Paidha Black Angels take on KCCA FC in the finals on 15th June at the Betway Greenlight stadium in Arua District.

Breaking: Uganda Cranes Still Stranded in Dakar

With just a few hours to the kickoff between Cape Verde and Uganda, reliable reports indicate the Uganda Cranes are still stranded in Senegal’s Capital, Dakar.

Team doctor Ronald Kisoro in a Whatsapp messege bemoaned the delay in connecting from Dakar to Praia where the game is supposed to be played.

“You cannot believe it we are still stuck at Dakar airport. It’s 11am here. These guys use these tricks for visiting teams. We might get to Cape verde at 3pm. Game is 4pm” he stated.

Just seven players have reached Cape Verde having connected to the Island on Friday evening.

These include Isaac Muleme, Bernard Muwanga, Emma Okwi, Derrick Nsibambi, Geoffrey Sserunkuma.

However, the rest of the contingent is still stuck in Senegal with reports of intended delay in connection flights from Senegal to Cape Verde.

Elgon Cup, first leg
Uganda 18-23 Kenya

Kenya continued her dominance against rivals and neighbors Uganda with yet another spirited performance in the first leg of the Elgon Cup played on Saturday at Legends rugby club grounds, Lugogo.

Darwin Mukidzaa proved a thorn in the foot for the rugby cranes having a bigger role in helping Kenya cruise to a 23-18 victory in the first leg of the annual contest.

The Simbas despite playing away from home proved their prowess starting the game the better side and 5 minutes into the game, Mukidza converted a penalty to put the visitors in an early lead.

Uganda was reduced to 14 men with Marvin Odong picking up a yellow card and was sent to the sin bin. This played in Kenya’s way, who continued to attack Uganda.

The pressure paid off dividends moments later with Samson Onsomu making the first try of the game .  Mukidza made no mistake to bury the conversion and Kenya led 10-00.

Upon return, Marvin Odong returned with a bang making Uganda’s first try of the game that sent the fully parked stadium into raptures. Phillip Wokorach made the conversion before finishing off a penalty to send Uganda ahead at 11-10.

A spirited attack orchestrated by Ivan Magomu saw his chipped pass over the Kenya defense line put to use by James Odong who crossed the white chalk.

The Deejay of the day, Silk Stuart played Bebe Cool ft Sauti Sol’s Mbozzi za Malwa to the delight of the mammoth crowd and the conversion from Phillip Wokorach also went in to aid Uganda to a 18-10 halftime lead.

However, there was change of fortunes after recess with the visitors returning recharged. Martin Owilla made a try for the Simbas before Mukidza rose to the occasion to clear the conversion.

Aaron Ofoirwoth who came on for Ivan Kirabo was unlucky as he was sent to the sin bin less than a minute after coming on.

The result means, Kenya carry a 5 point advantage ahead of the return leg in Nairobi slated for 24th June with the same fixture serving as an Africa gold cup match.

Uganda’s Marvin Odong was named the man of the match.

Cape Verde, Uganda Encounter Postponed to Sunday

Confederation of African Football (CAF) has postponed the game between Cape Verde and Uganda to Sunday, 11th June 2017.

The 2019 African Cup of Nations qualifier initially supposed to be played on Saturday, has been pushed to the following day after delays in flights for Uganda,

The Uganda Cranes got stranded in Senegal’s capital Dakar and thus they could not reach in time for the game.

Reliable sources indicated this was a planned move to have the cranes arrive for the game fatigued due to jet lag.

“They have done this to most of the visiting teams. Because it is a difficult place to reach, they use this as an opportunity to frustrate opponents,” said the source who preferred anonymity.

Uganda traveled in bunches with the first contingent of 7 players arriving in Praia on Friday evening. The second bunch was supposed to connect to the island nation early on match day but due to delays, they only arrived in Cape Verde just minutes away to scheduled kickoff time.

CAF thus has decided the game will be played on Sunday at Estadio de Verzei. Uganda is in group L alongside Tanzania, Lesotho and Cape Verde

Uganda Cup Countdown (5 days): What You Need to Know About the Venue for the Final

The highly anticipated Uganda Cup final between KCCA FC and Paidha Black Angels continues to draw closer with now just five days left.

ChimpReports brings you the nitty grit facts and analysis ahead of the game and a countdown to the final.

In today’s article, we take a look at Arua district (Greenlight stadium to be exact) where the final will be held come Thursday 15th June.

About Arua town

Arua District is bordered by Yumbe District to the north, Adjumani District to the northeast, Amuru District to the east, Nebbi District to the southeast, Zombo District to the southwest, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) to the west, and Maracha District to the northwest.

The district headquarters at Arua are located about 425 kilometers (264 mi), by road, northwest of Kampala, the capital and largest city of Uganda.  The coordinates of the district are: 03 00N, 31 10E

Arua District got its name from Arua town.

In the late 1970s, the Ugandan president at the time Godfrey Binaisa declared that all districts/provinces acquire their names from their regional capital so that is how Arua district inherited the name from Arua town.

The district originally included Aringa County, which was later split off to become Yumbe District.

Arua district is the birthplace of former President Idi Amin.

It was a springboard for some units of the Uganda People’s Defense Force who entered the DRC at the beginning of the Second Congo War.

Arua District is a peaceful district; save for the disruption caused in the late 1990s by the Lord’s Resistance Army rebels on the Karuma-Pakwach road that provides the main road link into the district.

In 2005, the northeastern part of the district was split off as the separate, new district of Koboko.

Arua District has five counties after three of the original six counties were split off.

Koboko was granted district status. Maracha was, in 2006, also granted district status, (Maracha District).

Initially, Terego County was also included in Maracha District (Maracha-Terego District). However, failing to agree on where the new district headquarters should be located, Terego County opted to remain part of the larger Arua District.

The inhabitants of Terego County in Arua District and those of Maracha District, regard themselves as different ethnicities; although the Government of Uganda recognizes them as the Lugbara.

The other counties in Arua District are: Vurra, Madi-Okollo and Ayivu; where the Arua District headquarters are located.

Greenlight stadium

Located about 5 kilometers on the outskirts of Arua town in a place called Paruku, Greenlight stadium is the home to Uganda premier league and new emerging football force Onduparaka football club.

The stadium was selected as the venue to host the final of the 43rd edition in March.

Like it has always been the norm, in a bid to spread football throughout the country, Fufa set the trend of having the Uganda Cup final played in the different regions of country.

West Nile region won the bid to host the 2017 final in January and settled for Greenlight stadium as the venue where the final game shall be played.

The playing surface is however a spot for concern with the pitch usually having patches of grass and bare ground due to too much heat almost throughout the year.

Approximately, the stadium has a capacity ranging between 6000-10000.

AFCON 2019: Sserunkuma’s Late Strike Hands Uganda Perfect Start

Uganda Cranes made sure they got their 2019 African Cup qualifying campaign to a perfect start, putting up a brilliant performance to earn a hard fought win against Cape Verde Islands.

Veteran striker Geoffrey Sserunkuma came off the bench to score as Uganda edged Cape Verde 1-0 in the game played at the Verzei stadium on Sunday.

Initially the game was scheduled to take place on Saturday but was postponed after delays in travel of Uganda’s contingent from Dakar to Praia.

Despite the challenges, Uganda managed to put up a brilliant performance to claim victory away from home.

Team coach Milutin “Micho” Sredojevic had a seemingly defensive side start the game with a couple of rare figures.

Bernard Muwanga who plays for SC Villa started at the heart of defence alongside Jjuko Murushid.

Isaac Muleme, another rare player, also made the grade starting on the left wing.

KCCA FC’s on-form striker Derrick Nsibambi started as the leading striker alongside Miya Farouk and Emma Okwi.

Despite making several inroads, the home side failed to find the cutting edge with Dennis Onyango proving his prowess in goal.

The reigning CAF best player kept Cape Verde at bay with a couple of saves while the defence line also remained impenetrable.

The deciding moment came in the 83rd minute when substitute Geoffrey Sserunkuma tapped home Geoffrey Walusimbi’a ground cross.

Sserunkuma had come on for Emma Okwi at the 80th minute mark.

The result means Uganda now lead group L on 3 points with Tanzania and Lesotho level on one point apiece while Cape Verde are bottom with no point.

Uganda kicked off their bid to qualify for the 2019 African Cup of Nations with an emphatic victory against Cape Verde on Sunday.

Veteran striker Geoffrey Sserunkuma came off the bench to score the lone goal of the game as Uganda edged past Cape Verde in a closely contested encounter played at the Verzei stadium in Praia.

Cranes head coach Milutin “Micho” Sredojevic has hailed the team for the great performance that saw them begin the campaign on a positive note.

“I must say the boys put up a good fight. They remained focused throughout the game and we managed to get all three points away from home,” he stated.

“It is important that we begin the campaign with a good result because this will motivate us going into the next games against Tanzania and Lesotho,” Micho added.

The Serbian tactician also applauded the players for keeping their spirits high despite the challenges going to Cape Verde.

“They remained determined and focused despite the challenges in flight connections and reaching here late. I believe that was important and it helped us to get the win here,” he asserted.

The result meant Uganda ascended to the summit of group L on 3 points ahead of Tanzania and Lesotho who have a point apiece while Cape Verde sit bottom of the group with no point.

Uganda’s next group game will be at home to Tanzania in March 2018 before taking on Lesotho.

Uganda Cup Countdown (3 days): KCCA FC Domestic Double Near Misses

$
0
0

KCCA FC will be seeking to become the third team to win the domestic double (League and Uganda Cup in the same season) after SC Villa and Express FC.

Ahead of the final against Paidha Black Angels, ChimpReports in the build up to the highly anticipated clash brings you the chances/years that KCCA FC have missed on winning the double after clinching le

1983

KCCA FC won the 1983 league title with relative ease with three games to spare having lost only two games all season; against SC Villa and Nile FC.

This was KCCA FC fourth league title toppling SC Villa who had won the 1982 title unbeaten.

So, when the two sides reached the Uganda Cup final, Villa was out to prove a point.

On the way to the final, SC Villa saw off Express FC 2-1 while KCCA eased past Tobacco 5-2.

SC Villa however went ahead to win the Uganda Cup title courtesy of Sula Ssentamu’s late strike and KCCA FC missed out on clinching the domestic double.

1985

In one of the most memorable finishes to a league season, KCCA beat Express FC to the title on a goal difference of three goals.

Coincidentally, both teams made it to the final on November 21. In the semis, KCCA eliminated Nile FC while Express overcame Coffee.

For the second time, talk of winning the double of a league and Cup double had gained momentum in football circles and KCCA fans taunted rival clubs how they were going to become the first side to achieve the feat.

Incidentally, the season was organized in a way that both the league and Uganda Cup trophies were arranged to be awarded on the day of the final. So, this further heightened the tension and excitement of the final.

In the final, right from the onset, Express looked the hungrier and took the lead through youthful Joachim Matovu.

A few minutes into the second half, KCCA skipper Charles Masiko evened matters but the celebrations in the yellow half of Nakivubo stadium were short-lived when Phillip Musoke restored Express lead.

KCCA won a late penalty but Has-san Biruma fluffed the opportunity from the spot.

Express put the result beyond doubt when Muguwa connected with Mukasa’s cross to make it 3-1.

It was Express’ first Uganda Cup title.

2014

Having won the 2012/13 league title with two games to spare, KCCA under the tutelage of George Nsimbe, set their eyes yet again on the elusive double.

So, reaching the Uganda Cup final against URA FC provided the best chance.

The match played at Mbale Municipal stadium saw KCCA grab the lead through William Wadri before Simeon Masaba equalized for Paul Nkata’s charges.

Moses Feni Ali put the Taxmen in the lead before KCCA FC equalized through Derrick Nsibambi to take the game to penalty shoot-out.

It was heartbreak again as KCCA lost 2-4 with Kiwanuka Gadaffi and Ronnie Kisekka failing to convert their spot-kicks.

Can KCCA FC break the jinx this time as they take on Paidha Black Angels?

Midfielder Taddeo Lwanga has come out to bid farewell to Sports Club after completing his move to Vipers.

Magogo Scoffs at Government for Poor Facilitation of National Team

Uganda Cranes defied odds to earn a hard fought 1-0 victory away to Cape Verde in the opening game of the 2019 African Cup of Nations qualifier on Sunday.

The gallant team safely returned home, touched down at Entebbe international airport in wee hours of Tuesday (3am)

Upon arrival, Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) boss, Engineer Moses Magogo did not have any kind words towards government for the meager contribution towards the cranes and sports in general.

“I thank the players and technical team for their continued hard work and commitment shown despite the challenges they went through,”

“It is a pity that the national team continues to be treated the way they are treated. The government has continuously shun its duty of facilitating the national team. For God’s sake these players are representing Uganda not Fufa or Magogo,” he furiously stated before bemoaning the challenges the team had went through ahead of the Cape Verde game.

“You can’t imagine what the players went through before the game. Thankfully CAF allowed to postpone the game but we could have lost those points,” Magogo stated.

Magogo also went ahead to reveal that the team had to spend 30 hours on flight before touching down at Entebbe.

“We have been in transit for over 30 hours moving all over Africa from Dakar to Bamako then Adis Ababa before finally reaching here. But why this entire if we had a government that cares about national teams,”

“We shall not stop reminding the government of its obligation and we have performed whenever they have given us chartered flights.”

A sport in Uganda has continued to work under pea but funding from government. In the recently released 2017/18 national budget, the sector was allocated a meager 12 billion shillings.

Uganda is one of the few countries where federations undertake costs while presenting national teams and athletes to compete internationally carrying the Ugandan flag.

Where support has been provided, it is inadequate, late, unpredictable and dependent on the moods and times.

Ivan Ntege Close to Joining SC Villa

Ask for a hardworking, robust, combative and hard tackling holding midfielder in Uganda, I will show you Ivan Ntege.

Reliable reports indicate the diminutive defensive midfielder is close to sealing a move from league champions KCCA FC to SC Villa.

It is believed that the workaholic who is unsettled at Phillip Omondi stadium will ditch the league champions for the Nsambya based side as a replacement for Taddeo Lwanga who has since moved to Vipers.

“It is almost a done deal, he has agreed a two year deal with SC Villa and that’s where he will play next season,” said a source that preferred anonymity.

Ntege has fallen out of favor at KCCA FC with Mike Mutebi opting for either Isaac Kirabira or Tom Masiko in the holding position.

The arrival of Saddam Juma further indicated that Ntege was bound for an exit.

There are also reports of not being on good terms with manager Mike Mutebi who is believed to be forcing Ntege out despite management wanting him to stay.

Ntege popularly referred to as “Kojja” has been a loyal servant of the club and among the longest serving player in the current KCCA FC squad since joining them in 2010.

If the deal goes through, Ntege will become SC Villa’s fifth signing in this transfer window after acquiring George Ssenkaba (from Kirinya Jinja SS) and Musa Mukasa, Simon Sserunkuma and Mahad Yaya Kakooza (all from Express FC)

The Uganda national football team safely returned home after a job well done on their expedition in Cape Verde.

The Cranes touched down at Entebbe International airport on Tuesday morning at 3 am aboard Ethiopian airlines ET 366.

Upon arrival, the team was treated to a brief dinner before the captain, coach and Fufa President addressed the media.

Time for departure came and to the shock of many including players, the team manager Crispus Muyinda started giving out a 50,000 note to each of the players as transport back home.

Some of the players were heard complaining about the peanut facilitation given to them as they headed to their respective destinations.

A player who preferred anonymity intimated to this website how their efforts and work is undermined by getting such meager returns.

“It is a pity that we sacrifice our lives to represent the nation but we get peanuts. Our contribution is not valued like the Fufa President said in his submission,” stated the player.

There has always been reports of delayed remittance of players allowances and winning bonuses but the Federation has always come out to state that there is a mutual agreement with the players on when to get their money.

Earlier on, Fufa boss, Engineer Moses Magogo had scoffed at government for poor facilitation rendered to the national team.

Magogo asserted that it is the duty of the government to take full charge of facilitating the national team and he bemoaned the situation that the team had to undergo before playing the game against Cape Verde.

If there is anything that has continued to distance Kampala Capital City Authority Football Club (KCCA FC) from the VEK(Villa-Express-KCCA) triangle it not winning a domestic double.

SC Villla have managed the feat four times while Express did it once in 1995, therefore , this leaves KCCA FC out as the odd man in the three traditional giant clubs of Uganda’s football.

Ahead of the Uganda Cup final this Thursday, KCCA FC is aware of what is at stake and the target will be putting a halt to the long jinx.

To win the elusive double KCCA FC have an uphill challenge in Paidha Black Angels whom they take on in the final to be played at Betway Greenlight stadium in Arua.

KCCA FC team manager Mike Mutebi is quite aware of what is at stake and he believes his team has an upper hand on Paidha to lift the title.

There is no doubt that we go into this game as overwhelming favorites, that is a fact. But this calls for extra effort to make sure we play to that status

The manager told the club website before indicating that Paidha Black Angels will not be a walk in the park.

We respect them and I believe they are not in the finals by accident. They have played themselves to this stage so we accord them the respect they deserve

With the double target at stake, the manager confirms that this has pushed the team to work harder to break the jinx.

Everyone at the club wants to be part of history as the first KCCA FC team to win a domestic double. So the players are even fueled more ahead of the game.

In a similar breath, Paidha Black Angels coach Hussein Keri is oozing with confidence that his team can go on to shock KCCA FC and write history.

“We are ready for the final and focus from everyone on the team is encouraging and I believe we are in the right shape ahead of the final,”

“KCCA FC are a good team without a doubt, they won the league and doing well on the continent but we are equally a great time who have reached the finals not by accident but rather through hard work,” Keri noted.

Keri believes the team has achieved a lot but winning the title would be the best filling and an icing on the cake.

“We have made history already by reaching the finals but that doesn’t mean we give away the final. We want to win the Uganda Cup to even make more history,” he indicated.

The Bible in ecclesiasts 3:1 indicates “To Everything There is a Season. 1There is an appointed time for everything. And there is a time for every event under heaven– 2A time to give birth and a time to die; A time to plant and a time to uproot what is planted.…”

And it is time for assistant referee Samuel Kayondo to retire from the call he has served with loyalty for the last 22 years.

Kayondo announced that he will officially retire on Thursday 15th June 2017 with his final game in charge as a referee coming in the Uganda Cup between Paidha Black Angels and KCCA FC at Greenlight stadium in Arua.

The match official intimated to this website that he has had a wonderful journey and believes it is time to leave the stage

“Today is my last day as a referee in the world, the job I have done with one heart for 22 years. Imagine referring is a game in which you are juggling five balls in the air. These are work, health, family, friends and spirit. You are keeping all balls in the air. You will soon understand that work is a rubber ball. If you drop the ball, it will bounce back. But the other four balls – family, health, friends and spirit are made of glass. If you drop one of these, they will be damaged or even shattered. They will never be the same. So you must as a referee understand that and strive for it.” stated Kayondo.

Kayondo has not only officiated at the local level but has gone a notch higher to handle regional and continental engamements.

Who is Kayondo?

Born in 1970 to Mr. Kefa Kigero Ssekibuule and  Mrs. Joyce Nalubega, Samuel Kayondo attended SSI Primary School in Bukunja, present day Buikwe District for his elementary studies.

He joined Ngogwe Baskerville SS and later Bishop SS Mukono where he completed his secondary school education before enrolling for a diploma in Journalism at UMCAT.

Picking interest in officiating

Kayondo notes that he picked interest in becoming a referee at the age of 24 in 1994 because he had the passion and love for the game of football.

At that time, Nelson Mubanda Nsubuga a respected and celebrated referee in Uganda picked Kayondo and took him to Mukono where he enrolled in the beginners courses.

A year later, Kayondo due to his willingness and ability at interpreting the laws of the game had fast risen to promise and started officiating games as an assistant referee(Linesman).

He would go on to affirm his prowess hence earning him a CAF badge and by 2004, Kayondo had acquired the prestigious FIFA referee’s badge.

This meant, the calm and composed referee had earned himself the opportunity to officiate games on the continent including national team qualifiers and club engagements a thing he has done for the last 13 years.

Any honors?

Kayondo cannot figure out the numerous awards he has got in the 22 years but notable among them are the Fufa, CAF, FIFA certificates and two CECAFA medals won in 2008 and 2009 in Sudan and Rwanda respectively.

The ever joyful official does not regret the time he has spent as an assistant referee due to the various achievements attained including friends, educating his children and living a reasonable life.

Life after referring

Kayondo states that he has several commitments ahead of him that includes his businesses, caring for his family more but also harbors plans of becoming a referees assessor or instructor.
