UCU Lady Canons 70-66 KCCA Leopards
Defending champions, Uganda Christian University (UCU) Lady canons proved their intent to reclaim the National Basketball League (NBL) title after edging past rivals KCCA leopards in the game one of the final series.
In a hotly contested game played at the MTN arena, Lugogo on Sunday, UCU Lady canons fought hard to take game one winning 70-66 in overtime.
The defending champions started with vigor and took the first period 14-07 to have an impressive start.
The gap stretched further at the start of the second quarter and midway through the 2nd period, the score board read 23-07.
However, KCCA leopards regrouped and combined for 17 points in the final six minutes of the second period but that fell short of Canon’s 18 points and the university side headed into halftime with an eight point cushion leading 32-24.
KCCA continued with the catch up play even after recess taking the third period 15 points three better then UCU Lady canons and the gap had narrowed to just five points heading into the final quarter.
The game ended all square in normal time both teams tied at 59 points at the end of the fourth quarter with Leopards powering in 20 points to lady canons 15.
The Nicholas Natuhereza coached side however nicked the game 70-66 in overtime adding 11 points while Leopards managed only seven.
Jane Nansobya led the scores with a game high 21 points for UCU lady canons while Martha Soigi had a team high 19 points for KCCA Leopards.
