Micho Pays Tribute to Football Team That Perished in Lake Albert Boat Accident

Uganda cranes head coach Milutin Sredojevic “Micho” has paid tribute to footballers and fans who perished in a boat accident on Lake Albert on Christmas day.

Micho conveyed his condolences to the families of the victims of the tragedy with reports indicating over 20 people are feared dead.

“Life has huge connection to death and on that note, I want to express my heartfelt condolences to the people that lost their loved ones in the boat accident,” Micho stated.

“The whole world is writing about the tragedy and people from as far as Italy have been calling me to confirm, which means it is indeed sad news to us,” he added.

A boat carrying a football team and their fans from Kaiweibanda village, Buliisa District capsized on Lake Albert on Sunday morning before reaching their destination (Hoima District) where they were going to play a friendly football match.

Reports indicate, the boat capsized due to overloading with about 45 people believed to have been on board at the time of the tragedy.

At least nine people have been confirmed dead while 21 others are still missing.

Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) have also joined the world in paying tribute to the fallen footballers and fans.

The tragedy comes barely a month after the plane crush that claimed lives of players of Chapecoense football team in Colombia.
