A vehicle carrying Wakiso Hill women football club was involved in a ghastly accident on the Mbale-Soroti highway as the team was on their way to a Fufa women elite league match against Olila WFC in Soroti.
The team van collided with an over speeding Toyota Harrier that was coming from Soroti side. According to the team head coach Peter Mugabi, the driver of the Harrier lost control, entered into their lane and crushed on the right side of the van.
“We were involved in an accident today at around 5 AM while on our journey for the match (vs Olila),” Mugabi told ChimpSport from Mbale Municipal hospital where the casualties were rushed for treatment.
“Our bus was driving in average speed because we were on time but the small car, a Harrier, seemed to have lost control and crushed on our driver’s side.
“The driver of the car shamelessly ran away from the scene and left his vehicle there.”
According to the coach, the team can no longer continue with their journey since most of his players were injured badly with cases of dislocation.
“Most of my first team players are injured and others have dislocations, so it’s impossible to go ahead with the match. The rest are still in shock,” he added.
Among the players seriously injured include Zaituni Maganda, Massa Kirana, Sandra Nangobi, Shamina Namususwa and Sarah Nabada. Games master Mathew Lumu has also sustained major injuries.
