Farouk Miya’s 70th minute stunner against Mali has been named the CNN Africa Cup of Nations goal of the tournament.
The historic goal was the only that Uganda scored after a 39 year absence from the tournament and also earned the first point.
Miya collected a total of 1820 of the 2,757 total votes cast representing 66%. The former Vipers forward was closely crawling behind Egypt’s Mohammed Salah three days ago but his fans picked up and voted widely in the remaining 24 hours.

Salah curled a 66th minute beauty to the far top corner to give Egypt the lead against Burkina Faso in the semi finals.
Other contenders of the goal of the tournament include Guinea Bissau’s Piqueti solo run from the midfield up to goal and Vincent Aboubakar’s Afcon winning goal for Cameroon. The two picked 17 and 3 percent of the votes respectively
Congratulations to Uganda’s Farouk Miya, winner of the first ever CNN Goal of the Tournament. #AFCON2017
