Fufa Big League
Rwenzori group
Masavu 2-0 Nyamityobora
Masavu brightened their chances of leading the Rwenzori group after defeating rivals Nyamityobora on Thursday in Fufa Big league.
In the game played at Katabi gombolola playground, goals from Onesmus Andama and Ddumba Sadala ensured Masavu earned their 10th win of the season and stretch their lead at the helm.
Nyamityobora will have themselves to blame after squandering several goal scoring opportunities especially in the first half.
Abato Yusuf, Muwawu Faizo and Kiberu Elvis were all wasteful on the day failing to convert the numerous chances that the team created.
It was Onesmus Andama who opened the scores in the 38th minute with a powerful effort just outside the area.
Goalkeeper Crispus Kusiima miscalculated Andama shot that hit the ground before finding its way to the back of the net and Masavu led 1-0 at halftime.
Despite several attempts to search for the equaliser, Masavu maintained discipline at the back keeping Nyamityobora at bay.
Nyamityobora coach, Charles Ayiekho made several changes introducing former Victoria University striker Omara Shaban for Elvis Kiberu while youngster Charles Ssebutinde replaced Yusuf Abato but the changes seemed futule failing to yield any dividends.
Ddumba Saddala doubled the lead for the home side with five minutes to the end of the game slotting the ball on the far end of the goal beyond the goalkeeper’s reach.
The result means Masavu stay top of the Rwenzori group with 33 points in 14 games while Nyamityobora are third, 11 points behind the leaders but with a game in hand.
Teams that top the FUFA Big league groups (Rwenzori and Elgon) qualify automatically to the Azam Uganda premier league.
