2015 Uganda Cup champions Sports Club Villa on Wednesday evening bowed out of this year’s CAF confederations cup on 7-1 aggregate loss despite defeating Moroccan giants FUS Rabat in their second leg tie at the Mandela national stadium in Kampala.
The Moroccans who had fielded their second string team with seven players who featured in the first leg remaining home went on to lose one nil but the win was not enough to stop them from qualifying to the next round.
The missing players included Mehdi El Bassel, Abderrahmane El Houassli, Mourad Batna, Mohamed Nahiri, Nabil Baha and Abdessalam Benjelloun.
However, the Jogoos who begun the match with a seven goal deficit showed character and intent to match up their opponents and possibly getting a decent result.
Right winger Godfrey Lwesibawa crafted the first closest attempt in the match at 15th minute mark with a quick counter attack up his flank before releasing a pin point cross for Umar Kasumba to head in but the striker was slow to jump putting it wide.
The visitors retaliated immediately with a long ball outside the Villa box, then followed a one two between Zakaria Hajjuwa and Moustapha Konde before setting up Nayef Aguard but his stunning direct shot was acrobatically kept off by Sebwato.
Martin Kiiza had a another chance to pull one for the hosts just before the break after getting to the end of Jonathan Mugabi’s long clearance but his loop in a one on one with Rabat’s keeper was awful flying away from destination.
Kasumba put Villa in the lead just eleven minutes after restart from the spot. Miso Katende had earlier been brought down in the box.
FUS Rabat now progress to the final round of qualifiers before the group stages.
