Express FC regained bragging rights after beating fiercest rivals SC Villa one nil in the Kampala derby at Wankulukuku in the Azam Uganda Premier League on Friday.
The record league champions will have themselves to blame after being in control of the game most of the time as well as creating a number of wasted chances.
The blues will blame their forwards for failure to covert the multitude of chances the team created but again, Express will have to be thankful of goalkeeper Emmanuel Opio’s heroics that saved them for the day before earning him a man of the match performance at Wankulukuku.
In the 64th minute, Allan Kyambadde scored the lone goal of the day off a Joseph Ssemuju run that saw him through SC Villa players like a knife cutting through butter.
The visitor tried to salvage at least a point but their chances went on wandering at the goal.
Speaking shortly after the game, Express coach Matia Lule said his strategy for the game had paid off heavily with 3 points in the bag for his team.
“I told the boys that all teams in the league are the same but only player change. They put that into their mind and at the end we won,” Lule said.
Asked to comment about the minimal chances his team created, the Express FC tactician said it is not the number of chances created that matter but the tactics.
“We can create one chance and it is a goal like it was today,” he noted.
The win ensured Express took their tally to 36 points whereas SC Villa remain on 47 points in the Azam Uganda Premier League.
