Kirinya Jinja SS 1-0 SC Villa

Kirinya Jinja SS brightened their chances of survival with a hard fought win against table leaders Sport club Villa.

Either teams began with a cautious mentality failing to find the cutting edge.

Umar Kasumba got the first attempt at goal in the 24th minute but failed to find the target by few inches.

Defender Livingston Mulondo made a timely interception and Kasumba failed to calm his nerves to out the ball beyond goalkeeper Tom Ikara.

The two sides returned to the dressing rooms for the mandatory break goalless.

The decisive moment came in the 53rd minute with referee Dennis Batte pointing to the spot kick after a foul in the area on George Ssenkaba.

Bashir Mutanda stepped up to convert the resultant sending goalkeeper Samson Kirya the wrong way.

Ssenkaba was sent off with 15 minutes to time after elbowing defender Ibrahim Kiyemba.

Despite several attempts from Villa including Kamanzi hitting the woodwork, Kirinya held on to earn maximum points.

The result means Kirinya Jinja SS moved out of the drop zone to 11th on 27 points while SC Villa remain top on 47 points despite the loss.
