Fufa Contributes 5M for Bed Ridden Football Legend

The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has Wednesday morning come out to indicate they will foot the hospital bills for bed ridden former football ace Issa Ssekatawa who is bed ridden.

Fufa deputy CEO,Humphrey Mandu made the official communication on Wednesday during the weekly press conference at the Federation headquarters in Mengo,Kampala.

Mandu announced that Fufa will contribute UGX 5 million to cater for thereat bills as Ssekatawa undergoes another surgery.

Ssekatawa broke his leg as he was training with ex internationals about two month ago at Nakivubo Stadium.

The football icon underwent an operation but the recovery process has been unsuccessful with the leg starting to rot.

At the start of this week, Ssekatawa made a public outcry to solicit for money to undergo another surgery or else he could be amputated.

On Tuesday, KCCA FC made a courtesy visit to Ssekatawa’s home in Najjanakumbi offered him UGX 0.5 million

Brief information about Ssekatawa

Ssekatawa rose to the occasion in early 1980s and his ability to score goals at will earned him the nickname “Golden boy”

He went ahead to win the top scorers gong on three consecutive occasions between 1981-1983 at Nytil and Express.

He won the boot in 1981 scoring 18 goals at Nytil and went ahead to reclaim it in 1992 and 1983 scoring 22 and 21 goals respectively at Express.

Ssekatawa played for several other clubs including Coffee and KCCA FC.

The goal scoring machine went ahead to play for Uganda cranes winning two Cecafa titles.

He was the first Ugandan footballer to make a commercial advert with Bata shoe company making him popular.
