Only 16 teams are still in contention for the 2017 Total CAF Confederation Cup including Uganda’s representatives, Kampala Capital City Authority Football Club (KCCA FC).
With the draws scheduled to be held on Wednesday in Cairo, Egypt, Chimpsport’s Joel Muyita looks at the likely opponents for KCCA FC.
The 16 teams were drawn into two pots with the best ranked four teams taking Pot 1. The ranking depended on the performance in the competition over the previous 5 years.
The seeded teams include defending champions TP Mazembe, CS Sfaxien, Zesco United and FUS Rabat.
TP Mazembe (DR Congo) rank highest with 58 points while Tunisia’s CS Sfaxien comes second at 21 points. Zambia’s Zesco United and Morocco’s FUS Rabat follow in 3rd at 15 points and 4th with 12 respectively.
The above mentioned four teams will each be put in a different group while the rest of the 12 teams in pot 2 will be drawn at random in the four groups. This therefore means that KCCA FC will play one of the four seeded teams in pot 1.
The teams in Pot 2 where KCCA FC falls include; Smouha, Recreativo do Libolo, MC Alger, CF Mounana, Horoya, Mbabane Swallows, Al Hilal, Club Africain, Rivers United, Supersport and Platinum Stars.
KCCA FC, the only team from CECAFA region that qualified for the group stage will be drawn against any of the above mentioned teams.
