
The Uganda premier league quest for the title winner is getting to its finishing sprint with three clear favourites on board; KCCA FC, Express and defending champions Vipers even though SC Villa with nine games pending are also mathematically in the range.
On Tuesday, Express FC have an appalling task with a trip to Buikwe to face reigning league winners Vipers SC in yet another clash that determines the bearing of the race.
Vipers were unlucky to come out with a point in their game against KCCA FC on Friday after William Wadri failed to convert a last minute open chance with only Ochan to beat.
The draw and a win for the Red Eagles shook the standing with the two swapping 3rd and 4th places.
Vipers now sit third favorite with 46 points, two and six lesser than Express and KCCA respectively though have more games on the cards.
Recently, Vipers owner/patron Mr. Lawrence Mulindwa who is also a renowned Red eagle handed a total of ten million shillings to the Express team who are passing through tough financial times. The move caused an uproar among the KCCA FC followers who doubted the timing.
“We have polished the few flaws we had in the previous game and we will certainly be sharper and more aggressive against Express,” Vipers coach George ‘Best’ Nsiimbe was quoted by club media.
The giants harbour two of the leagues top four most lethal strikers; Erisa Sekisambu and Tony Odur. The two have a combined 23 goals between them.
Express ended a 12-game winless run over their Tuesday hosts with 2-0 victory on Boxing day last year with goals from Ibrahim Kayiwa and Tony Odur. The duo struck on Saturday as they dimmed Bright Stars in Wankulukuku.
While the red eagles have no much injury worries to write home, they will face former players Allan Kyambadde, John Ssemazzi, Erisa Sekisambu, Mike Mutyaba and Shafik Bakaki.
The hosts will miss Musa Malunda, Dan Birikwalira and Deus Bukenya.
Express FC are the most inform team with four consecutive wins, only Sadolin Paints have managed five in a row in this season’s topflight.
