AUPL: Vipers Journey to Unfriendly Jinja

League defending champions, Vipers SC make their last trip away to Jinja on Friday afternoon to JMC Hippos as they continue their bid to retain the title.

The only time both met, Vipers emerged champions with a slim 1-0 win at Buikwe courtesy of John Ssemazi’s first half strike.

However the champions should be worried of their form in Jinja this season where they have picked two barren draws. Intact their last loss in the league came against another Kakindu based side, Bul FC.

The hosts have enjoyed a good run in their debut season and are currently perched on 9th place with 37 points and could end up in top five if they perform in the three remaining games.

“Our initial target was to survive relegation but good signs came at the end of first leg and we adjusted to finishing top five. So whoever thinks we have nothing to play for is unserious, our target is top five and beating a defending champion coats the cake,” coach James Odoch said while quelling rumors that Vipers could have an easy ride.

The hosts will be without long term absentee, Patrick Onyango while they expect to face former key defender Aggrey Madoi who jumped ship in January.

“Our fans want us to win and the important thing is we will be ready for them (JMC). It is a special game for me of course,” Madoi told club media.

Vipers will miss influential captain Nicholas Wadada due to accumulated cautions Deus Bukenya and defender Musa Malunda are yet to fully recover from sickness and injury and are also missing.
