Ladies: JKL lady dolphins 70-49 Nkumba Lady Marines

Men: Nkumba Marines 72-63 UPDF Tomahawks

Timothy Odeke the coach for both Nkumba basketball team that is Nkumba Marines (Men) and Nkumba lady marines (Ladies) had an evening that is not easy to summarise as both of his teams shared different fates.

First on court was the ladies game at 6pm, Lady Mariners were up against the JKL lady dolphins.

It was a slow start for Boniface Okello’s Dolphins as they had only managed to score one point against Mariner’s 16 just in the first 5 minutes of the game, and not much changed as the furst quarter ended 13-19 in Nkumba’s favour.

Back in the second quarter, with Lady Dolphins trailing by 6 points, they looked a rejuvenated side as they scored 18 points to lead the game by 31-26 at the end of the second quarter.

Lady dolphins never looked back; Nanyonga Florence garnered 13 points to add on a Jamilah Nansikombi’s 11 points and 7 rebounds to seal a maginificent 70-49 victory on Oketcho Flavia’s return.

Tomahawks humbled

The last game of the day saw on-form UPDF tomahawks take centre court with Nkumba Marines.

With Nkumba Marines’ only win before the game was against Falcons, Tomahawks was a huge mountain for them to climb.

Makutwa Sivachi, Byamukama Nerbert and Karamagi Charles combined brilliantly as they overturned tables against the Tomahawks to eventually win 72-63.

Makutwa hit a double double of 12 points and 10 rebounds as the Mariners recorded their second win of this year’s campaign.
