Uganda Cranes interim coach, Moses Basena has called up on everyone to stand by him as he embarks on sailing the national team through the upcoming storm.

Speaking on 102.1 FUFA FM sports show, “the Competitions’ Desk”, hosted by Nsereko Afriqana and Shafik Mutebi, Moses Basena showed how he is pleased to be at the helm of the national team.

“It’s an honor for me to be the Cranes coach per now. First and foremost, I have been an assistant and I am now the one holding the steering wheel. I hereby call upon the support from everyone so as we take the Cranes to the next level,” he said.

On summoning Vipers young lad, Frank ‘Zaga’ Tumwesigye, Basena noted that “as a country, we must be blessed to have many young talents around and I believe that many are still on the way.”

He added: “Before the South Sudan game, some of you had not seen Shafiq Kagimu play, but you have now realized that he is a good player since then. There must be successors to the aging players in the team such that continuity is achieved; I have introduced Tumwesigye to the National team as we did to Nsibambi, Mucurezi and many others.”

Regarding the Rwanda test, he acknowledged that “It is a big and crucial game but we have been beating them in the past. We expect them to put up a stronger challenge this time, so we are to have enough preparations so as we can see them off over both legs.”
