Uganda on Tuesday emerged the overall winners of the inaugural Eastern Africa Police Chiefs Cooperation Organization games held at Uganda Christian University in Mukono.
Seven countries out of the 13 EAPCCO member states participated in the games held at UCU in Mukono.
The games were part of the 19th annual general meeting for EAPCCO meant for September 17 in Kampala.
The theme of the games was, ‘promoting community policing and regional cooperation through sports.’
Speaking at the closing ceremony, the Inspector General of Police, Gen.Kale Kayihura applauded the Ugandan team for exhibiting skills as well as the spirit of sportsmanship during the games.
“This was not a competition but meant to bring cohesion among the forces for better cooperation, “Gen.Kayihura said.
“I hope those skills exhibited especially in marksmanship can be put to good use and help apprehend criminals.”
Kayihura said the excellent performance by the Ugandan team was not automatic but because of investment in sports by the force.
“As directed by the president to all forces, we also recruit talent.”
He said that the goal for which the games set for was achieved, adding that he expects the next edition of EAPCCO games to be more colorful.
Gen. Kayihura, the Inspector General of Uganda Police is to take over mantle as the chairperson EAPCCO for the next 2 years.
