Striker Umaru Kasumba has been named the best player for Kenyan Premier League side Sofapaka FC for the month of August.
Kasumba shared the gong with fellow Ugandan Rogers Aloro at the inaugural club monthly awards given out on Monday in a brief function held at the team’s training ground at Eastleigh High School.
The pacy forward has been in scintillating form since joining Sofapaka in June after leaving Sports Club Villa.
He also took home the top scorer of the month accolade. Kasumba scored six goals in five games in August.
Each award came with a cash prize of Kshs30,000( Ushs1 million).
Skipper Hillary Echesa was named the runner-up for the best player while the whole team won the Fair Play Award.
Upon receiving the award, Kasumba promised to work harder and score more goals.
“I will work hard and hopefully surpass the number of goals scored by Waruru. I must thank my teammates for the award I got at Sofapaka since were it not for them, I would not have scored. It all boils down to team work and I must also thank God for this great honour,” said Kasumba as quoted by the club website.
