Egypt 1-0 Uganda
Egyptian Pharaohs defeated Uganda Cranes 1-0 in the 2018 Russia World Cup Qualifiers (CAF) in a game played at the packed 60,000 Borg El-Arab Stadium.
Mohamed Salah’s early goal in the 6th minute was the only major difference between the two sides as Egypt returned to the top of Group E.
Cranes Coach Moses Basena named the same team that defeated Egypt earlier on Thursday but the boys did not do enough to pick at least a point in Alexandria.
Match reactions
Cranes Captain and Goalkeeper, Dennis Masinde Onyango reacted: “Hard fought game from the boys but one moment decided the game, let us stay focused and face the next challenge.”
Egypt Coach, Hector Cuper, on his part, admitted: “The pressure will remain until the end of the World Cup qualifiers and we are trying to ease it. Now our fate is in our own hands, we have to beat Congo in the coming game to avoid a decider in Ghana.”
What next for both teams?
Uganda’s remaining two group games include Ghana at Namboole and Congo on the road, Egypt will host Congo before a last trip to Ghana.
Group E has become a bit more complex with now 3 teams standing a chance to qualify for the 2018 Russia World Cup, Congo has already been eliminated from the equation after collecting only one point.
Egypt is now on top of the Group with 9 points closely followed by Uganda and Ghana who have 7 and 5 points respectively.
