The turmoil at the Azam Uganda Premier League (UPL) giants Express FC has taken another stride as the head coach Mathias ‘Matia’ Lule has resigned from his position due to unpaid salary.
Speaking with ChimpReports, the former Entebbe FC coach said: “I would not want to call it ‘resigning’ but let me just say that I have stepped down from my role as the head coach of Express FC.”
He went on: “I have laid down my tools until I’m cleared of my dues.”
Close sources can confirm that Express FC has not paid Lule and his coaching Staff for the past 4 months.
“I went to the CEO offices on Monday and I informed him about my current situation, which he reported to the Club Chairperson Hon Nakiwala Kiyingi accordingly,” added Lule.
Lule’s resignation comes amidst rumors that he had already signed with Bukovu FC, a Congolese club.
The Other Coaching Staff
Lule’s coaching staff includes Pius Ngabo, Joseph Kiwanuka, Edward Kalungi and Sam Kawalya.
Coach Ngabo was told not to come back at the club when he recently said that he will not return to the club until he was paid his 4 month arrears.
Kiwanuka commonly known as Coach Kiwa had left the club earlier before the preseason preparations started.
Club CEO and Fans Chairperson
Express FC Chief Executive Officer Ivan Bayige Kintu has also resigned, though he is yet to comment on the matter.
“CEO Kintu recently called us and he said that he has resigned but he has not sent his letter to the Club Chairperson,” confirmed a reliable source that preferred anonymity.
Gonzaga, the Fans Chairperson, who is believed to have his differences with Minister Nakiwala Kiyingi has also sided with the club work, but he hinted that he will always be available whenever the club needs him financially.
