Uganda Premier League

Bright stars 0-0 Vipers

Bright stars put up a resilient performance to earn a point off Vipers as the 2017/18 Uganda Premier League got underway.

Despite getting a player sent off early in the game, Bright stars managed to hold off Vipers and earn a point.

In the game played at Champions stadium, Mwererwe on Tuesday, Vipers created numerous chances but failed to find the cutting edge.

Thirteen minutes into the game, the home were reduced to ten men with midfielder Jimmy “Kachanga” Kakooza shown marching orders after a foul on Erisa Ssekisambu.

Erisa Ssekisambu got the first opportunity after 21 minutes but veteran goalkeeper Hamza Muwonge who was making his debut saved.

He later made several saves to deny Vipers include a one on one situation against Ashraf Mandela towards the break.

Vipers made double substitution upon resumption introducing Tony Odur and Pius Wangi for Stephen Mukwala and Ashraf Mandela.

However the home side remained compact at the back with Innocent Assimwe and Akram Kakembo manning the defence line.

Substitute Milton Karisa almost broke the deadlock with a header off Wangi’s cross but his effort sailed just above.

The result means Bright stars start the season in second place while Vipers are 9th both on one point.Vipers starting XI
