Bright stars put up a resilient performance to frustrate Vipers SC as the 2017/18 Azam Uganda Premier League got under way on Tuesday.

Despite playing a man less for over 70 minutes, the Kawempe based side managed to hold Vipers to a barren draw in the game played at the champions stadium, Mwerewe.

Midfielder Jimmy Kakooza alias Kachanga was shown marching orders 13 minutes into the game by Centre referee Dennis Batte after a challenge on Erisa Ssekisambu.

Head coach Fred Kajjoba notes that the players exhibited great mentality to remain composed and earn a point off Vipers.

“The point we got in the game was a result of mental toughness. They played as a unit and remained composed throughout,” he said.

“It is not playing with a man less especially against a team with quality players like Vipers but I commend my players for the effort,” Kajjoba added.

However, the tactician who also doubles as Uganda cranes assistant coach did not have kind words for Kakooza who was sent off indicating he will be punished.

“He must be punished, he made the rest of the team suffer and we are lucky we managed to get a point. I will punish him to make sure he learns to avoid throwing reckless tackles,” said the outspoken coach.

Veteran goalkeeper Hamza Muwonge, defender Innocent Assimwe and right back Asuman Bajjampola were outstanding on the day to deny Vipers.

Bright stars next game will be a trip to Kavumba to take on Soana FC on Friday.
