Afro T20: Roger Mukasa’s Half Century Gets Mighty Rhinos off the Mark

Charging Leopards 55/3 (5 overs) defeat Mighty Rhinos 60/1 (5 overs) by 9 wickets

Zebras 243/4 (20 overs) defeat Roaring Lions 179/7 (20 overs) by 64 runs.

The much anticipated Afro T20 cricket League finally started yesterday at Lugogo Cricket oval with a tie between Charging Leopards and Mighty Rhinos.

With two runs required from the final ball amidst tension, Roger Mukasa on target, held his nerve as he propelled the ball with a hard hit into the nearby tennis court for a six that won the thrilling game.

Mukasa ended the game with 50 runs off 19 balls.

His vital performance gave Mighty Rhinos a 9 wicket victory past Charging Leopards.

Due to early delays which were highlighted by rainfall, the game which was scheduled to start as early as 9:30 am was delayed for over 2 hours and it was reduced from 50 to 5 overs.

Fielding first, Rhinos limited Leopards to just 55 runs for the fall of 3 wickets – Hassan Raza and Simon Ssesazio scoring 23 and 24 runs.

Needing 56 runs in 5 overs to seal their victory in the inaugural tournament, Leopards broke the opening partnership when they ejected Yasin Hameed with just one run onto his name.

Pankay Gha joined Roger Mukasa on the crease and the pair formed a formidable partnership that withered through the storm of spins and fast bowling before clinching a deserved victory.

In the second game of the day, Pandeep 127 runs off 58 balls as Zebras 243/4 (20 overs) defeated Roaring Lions 179/7 (20 overs) by 64 runs.

Irfan Afridi and Rayesh Singh picked two wickets as the mighty lions chocked in the chase.
