Kyetume 1(5) – 1(4) Maroons
Kyetume progressed to the Quarterfinals of the Stanbic Uganda Cup 46th edition after a 5-4 penalty shootout victory over Maroons at the Mighty Arena, Jinja on Friday evening.
Both teams played out to a 1-1 draw in the normal time, but the hosts emerged victorious after the decisive spot kicks.
Baker Buyala fired Kyetume into the lead with a scintillating strike after 30 minutes before team-mate and veteran forward Robert Ssentongo rattled the cross bar, six minutes later..
On the 66th minute mark, Abraham Tusubira drew matters level and the game tied up in the normal time forcing kicks from penalty mark.
Maroons’ Ashaba Racmac, Ceaser Olega, Bronson Nsubuga, and Silvester Olello managed to convert from the spot while Tusubira missed.
For Kyetume, Cephas Kambugu, Kazindula Ibrahim, Deo Isejja, Vincent Kayizzi and Robert Sentongo all managed to convert their kicks, to see their side progress to the last eight.
Elsewhere, Light SS defeated UPDF FC 1-0 at Amuria High School playground joining the money bracket.
Light SS, Kyetume and KCCA are the three teams that have already booked a berth in the last eight.
The winner of the Uganda Cup (formerly the Kakungulu Cup) takes home Shs. 60M while the runner up bags Shs. 20M.
The semi-finalists part away with Shs. 10M while the quarterfinalists bag Shs. 5M each.
