Former Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspurs star, Emmanuel Adebayor insists he won’t bow to the pressure from critics about not donating to countrymates during the current COVID 19 crisis.

The striker was recently come under heat from the masses for staying silent and not doing any Charity for the affected families.

Adebayor during an online Facebook live stream maintained his stand arguing that he is not behind the cause of the pandemic.

He said, “I do what I want to do, eat the food I want and this is the most important. Then there will be those who criticise me for not having established a charity foundation in Togo. But it seems that I brought the coronavirus to Togo, it is very unfortunate, but this is the case and what happened in the country.”

The 2008 African football player of the year added that he will not join a bandwagon of African footballers like Samuel Eto’o and Didier Drogba who have extended support to their respective countries.

Samuel Eto’o gave relief food packages in Cameroon while Didier Drogba provided his new hospital in Ivory Coast to serve as a quarantine center.

“I’m sorry that people compare me to Samuel Eto’o and Didier Drogba by asking me why I don’t have a foundation or why I don’t donate, as if I was the one who brought the coronavirus to Togo, and I will always do what I want to do,” Adebayor maintained.

Adebayor has plyed for an array of football clubs including Man City, Tottenham, Real Madrid, Monaco and currently plays for Olimpia in Paraguay, which he joined this year from Turkish side Kayserispor.

Togo has so far registered 88 cases of Coronavirus with six registered deaths.
