Burundi was the last African country to call off their football activities last month following the outbreak of the COVID19 pandemic.

However, just a month after the sustspension announcement, the Burundi Football Federation (FFB) has set 21st May as the return date for professional football in the country.

The move will see the top flight Burundi Primus League, the second division league and the President’s Cup return to action even as the country battles with the pandemic.

Le Messager Ngozi, home to Uganda’s midfielder Brian Allan Kizza and defender Steven “Nesta” Mugisha is currently on top of the table with 54 points, four better than second placed Musongati who have a game in hand.

The Burundi President’s Cup which is played on a knock out basis had reached the semi-final stage and is poised to feature Aigle Noir, Rukinzo, Inter Star and Musongati.

The second division league will resume on 22nd May with various clubs vying for promotion to the top-flight League.
