COVID-19: Uganda Referees Association Donates Relief Food to “Forgotten” Referees

Last month, the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) donated food (rice) to the Uganda Premier League, FUFA Big League and FUFA Women Super and Elite League players as a relief to those affected by the COVID-19 crisis.

While the initiative left out referees and match commissioners, the Uganda Football Referees Associations (UFRA) has come out to aid it’s members who might have been hit hard by the pandemic.

The referees Association will distribute five Kilograms of Maize flour to 200 members in the relief food program.

“The current health situation has tantamounted to a lockdown affecting role of officiation the game of football in the country. The UFRA Executive Committee took a decision to use the meagre resources available to find One tonne of maize flour to be shared by 200 UFRA members,” read the statement signed by UFRA chairman Ronnie Kalema.

According to Kalema, the direct beneficiaries are the FIFA referees, FUFA referee badge holders and National referee assessors referees.

Referee Ali Sabila Chelangat will handle the donation exercise for FIFA referees while Isa Masembe, Fred Ndawula and William Oloya will be in charge of distribution to members in Buganda, Kampala and West Nile regions respectively.

Leo Allani and Denis Ojwe will be in charge of distribution to the Northern region as Emmy Kakooza and Gilbert Ngendo handle distribution in the Western region.

Also, Katono Sirajje and Mungasa Samuel will take charge in the Eastern region as Samuel Turyomuriwe and Joseph Ochom handle distribution in the Kitara and North Eastern regions respectively.
