On Wednesday this week, the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) ended all country football activities prematurely due to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis.
The decision saw Vipers SC declared Uganda Premier League Champions hence getting a direct ticket to represent the country in the CAF Champions League next season.
FUFA went on to award KCCA FC a slot to represent Uganda in the CAF Confederation Cup. The Kasassiro Boys finished second on the table, a decision that left Proline FC director Mujib Kasule disheartened.
FUFA president Magogo insisted that naming KCCA as Uganda’s representatives in the CAF Confederation Cup was a decision made by the Executive Committee.
According to the criteria, a club that wins the Uganda Cup automatically qualifies for the CAF Confederation Cup.
Following the the recent developments by FUFA on football in the country, Kasule believes his team would be next in line to play in the continental showpiece as they are the the cup defending champions despite being relegated to the FUFA Big League.
“We (Proline) are the defending champions of the Uganda Cup and we are at quarter finals stage already. I think FUFA would have considered us before considering KCCA FC as Uganda’s representatives in the CAF Confederation Cup. I don’t know the criteria FUFA used to determine KCCA FC as the team to represent the country even without consulting us,” the Proline said in an interview with NBS TV.
However an official ruling on the future of this year’s Uganda cup is yet to be made, with FUFA keeping cards close to the chest and waiting to see if and when the country eradicates the COVID-19 pademic. The competition was halted at the round of 16 stage.
Proline won the Uganda Cup season last season and went on to represent Uganda in the CAF Confederation Cup but failed to reach the group stages on their continental debut.
The Lugogo outfits have now been relegated to the FUFA Big League having finished the season 15th on 22 points from 25 games.
