The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has awarded a sum of One hundred and Twenty Eight million Ugandans shillings (128m) to top flight clubs inform of prize money.
The money issued is in form of prize money for all the 16 teams that featured in the 2019/2020 Uganda Premier League season which was ended prematurely due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Newly crowned UPL champions, Vipers Sports Club will have a lion’s share totalling to Shs. 60m while second placed KCCA FC will take home Shs. 20m.
Relegated Maroons(14), Proline(15) and Tooro United(16) will walk away with Shs. 1m, Shs. 0.7m and Shs. 0.5m respectively.
On top of the prize money, each of the 16 clubs is entitled to a tune of Shs. 70m per season as a package from league sponsor StarTimes.
Also, clubs are poised to receive COVID 19 relief funds from FUFA as promised by FUFA president Eng Moses Magogo.
FUFA set October 17, 2020 as the tentative dates for the start of the 2020/21 Uganda Premier League season.
MYDA FC and UPDF topped the Elgon and Rwenzori Big League groups to gain direct promotion to the Uganda Premier League.
However, Ndejje University petitioned FUFA appealing against UPDF’s status hence putting the latter’s position on hold.
Kitara, Kataka, Kiboga Young and Ndejje will lock horns in the promotional playoffs to determine the third team that will storm the top tier.
