Holding midfielder Mike Azira has departed Major League Soccer side Chicago Fire, the player has confirmed via his Instagram account.

Azira joined Chicago Fire in August 2019 on a one-year contract from Montreal Impact but won’t renew his marriage with the club after ending his short spell in United States of America.

“I would like to take this moment to thank the Chicago Fire organization for giving me the opportunity to play for this club. Thanks to the fans who have always supported me on and off the field. I wish the club nothing but the best in the future,” Azira posted on his instagram page.

Last season, Azira made only six league appearances in the Major League Soccer regular season, coming from the bench five times.

He has previously played for Seattle Sounders, Colorado Rapids, Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC, Charleston Battery, Tacoma Defiance, University of Mobile (UOM) Rams and Lindsey Wilson Blue Raiders.

The 32-year old midfield gem is currently part of the Uganda Cranes squad in Kenya ahead of the return leg of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers doubleheader tie against South Sudan at Nyayo National stadium on Monday.

Last season, Chicago Fire finished in the 11th position on 23 points of the Major League Soccer after the end of the regular season.
