The Confederation of African Football has cancelled the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup second preliminary round between KCCA FC and AS Kigali.
CAF’s decision arises from KCCA’s failure to raise the recommended number of players to have the game take place after a number of players tested positive of COVID-19.
According to FIFA laws of the game, each match must be played if the team has at least 11 players including a goal Keeper plus 4 substitutes.
FIFA and CAF’s COVID-19 regulations indicate that if a team does not have the minimum number of players (11 players including goal keeper) + 4 substitutes to play a match the team will be considered to have lost the match 2-0.
The development comes at a time when Uganda’s continental representatives didn’t travel with a goalkeeper as all the three registered for the championship, Charles Lukwago, Hassan Matovu and Ali Mwirusi tested positive for covid-19.
The decision means that AS Kigali have the first leg advantage with a 2-0 win following the cancellation of the Wednesday match.
KCCA FC will now need to overturn the defeat in the return leg that will be played on the 6th January, 2021 at the MTN Omondi stadium in Kampala
