Kuteesa Malida’s sole strike was enough to see Busiro to the next stage of the 2020 Masaza Cup tournament overcoming Mawogola on Monday at the FUFA Technical Center in Jinja.
Malida’s goal came in the two added minutes of the first stanza off a clinical close range tap in past Mawogola’s goalkeeper Lutaaya Michael.
Intelligent winger Usama Arafat laid through a long ball that met striker Gerrard Ogweti in the area before setting up an un-marked Kuteesa who placed it past custodian Lutaaya for Busiro’s goal.
In the 89th minute, Busiro would have doubled their lead in the second half but gangly forward Gerrard Ogweti squandered a clear cut opportunity, heading the header wide off Kuteesa’s teasing delivery.
Victory sailed 2019 finalists Busiro to the semifinal of the championship as Mawogola bows out despite a spirited showing in the 16th edition.
Busiro had topped the Bulange group with 10 points from four games, three points ahead of second placed Busujju as both booked quarter-final berths.
Elsewhere, Mawogola (8 points) finished second in the Butikkiro group tied on points with defending champions Bulemeezi that topped the group.
