Uganda Cranes head coach Jonathan McKinstry has continued to galvanize his forces ahead of their do or die encounter with CHAN title holders Morocco next week.
This follows Uganda’s 1-2 defeat at hands of tournament debutants Togo in the second game of group C at Stade de la reunification in Douala, Cameroon on Friday night denting the Cranes’ hopes for advancement.
The Northern irishman said he’s well aware that his boys are crestfallen but believes that the the players can get a result only if they stay focused.
“As a nation our target is still to go deep into the tournament. If we can reproduce our display showed against Togo especially in the second half and add more quality in the final third we can get a result against Morocco. So when that happens, we will be off to the quarterfinals and aiming forever. I know people are disappointed now as everyone is after a loss but we have to get our heads up and know that we have the quality to go cause Morocco problems,” he noted.
Saidi Kyeyune’s screamer after 51 minutes was not enough to salvage a point for the Cranes after compatriot Patrick Mbowa had earlier put the ball in his own net before Richard Nane strike ensured maximum points for the Hawks in Douala.
Uganda now sits at the bottom (4th) with just one point garnered following a goalless draw with Rwanda on matchday 1 and will play group leaders Morocco next week on Tuesday in a must win situation.
Defending champions Morocco have four points on top ahead of second placed Togo (3 points) and the Amavubi Stars of Rwanda (2 points) sit in 3rd.
