Uganda Hippos head coach Morley Byekwaso has dropped seven players from the initial 37-man squad preparing for the U20 African Nations Cup tournament.
Kiberu Ronald (Synergy FC), Lutalo Umar (Aspire Academy), Kitaka Samuel Moses (Loughborough University-UK), Lotanna Obi Obedi (Big Talent), Mukisa Emmanuel (Kataka FC), Okur Swamadu (Kataka FC) and Opio Odong (Luzira FC) are the players that have been given the boot from the residential training camp at Lugogo.
“We have been training for over 4 days and we had to reduce the number of players in the squad. All the players we summoned are good but we depended so much on their fitness levels. I’m impressed by the players’ attitude during training, we had no choice but they are still in our setup fortunately they may be summoned yet again,” head coach Byekwaso said.
Uganda Hippos will play against KCCA FC in a practice match on Wednesday at the MTN Omondi Stadium – Lugogo before a 25 man squad is selected to participate in the final tournament scheduled to take place in Mauritania from February 14th – 4th March 2021.
Uganda is placed in group A of the U20 AFCON tournament alongside hosts Mauritania, Cameroon and Mozambique.
