Teenage runner Hosea Kiplangat successfully clinched the 2021 edition of the National Cross Country Championship held in the Eastern town of Tororo on Saturday.
The 19-year old who turns out for Prisons, defied all odds to post a time finishing of 29:14:0 edging prominent competitors in Geoffrey Kusuro (29:15:1), Samuel Kibet (29:18:5) and Joel Ayeko (29:23.3).
Long distance runner, Kiplangat’s performance was reminiscent of his 2019 National cross country triumph where he won the men’s event with (23:31) outracing his rivals Dan Chebet (23:42) and Matthew Chepkurui (23:42).
Peruth Chemutai won the Senior Women’s team event (33:35.1) ahead of Doreen Chemutai, Doreen Chesang, Mercyline Chelangat and Rachel Zena Chebet.
In the Junior Men’s 8km race, Uganda Wild Life Authority’s Dismas Yeko clinched the top spot (23:39 2) while teammate Chesang Prisca Chamweno (20:08.4) won the Junior Women’s 6km event.
