• Police 2-0 BUL FC
Orthodox forward Johnson Odong was the hero as Police overcame resilient BUL FC 2-0 in the Uganda Premier League on Tuesday evening at the MTN Omondi stadium, Lugogo.
Odong scored one and assisted the other as the Cops registered their first victory in 20 league engagements with BUL FC. They had previously lost 18 and drew just once from as many games.
Following a goalless result in the first 45 minutes, Police returned a better side and went into the driving seat when Odong was setup by new signing Brian Muluuli inside the box.
The eventual man of the match calmly chest controlled a poorly cleared ball in the area before putting off his marker and sent a stunner into the top right corner as goalkeeper Ali Kimera remained helpless after 68 minutes.
Three minutes later, Kimera dived to parry away Herman Wasswa’s teasing delivery while Brian Muluuli was ruled offside in two consecutive keeper to beat challenges.
In the 77th minute, the dreadlocked forward Muluuli doubled Police’s lead off a clinical tap in from Odong’s swift delivery.
“The opponents were organized enough and we were not composed well on both wings in the opening stanza but returned a better organized side in the final lap. I appreciate my players for the patience exhibited and we are gradually improving in each and every game and we expect to keep the fire burning,” Police tactician Abdallah Mubiru said in his post match interview.
Mubiru added, “Our overall target as a team is to play well and we want to create an impact in the league though the main emphasis now is on the next two games against Vipers SC and Onduparaka.”
Police ascends to the apex of the log with 16 points having registered five wins, one draw and one defeat in the last seven outings. They will next visit Vipers SC on Friday at the St Mary’s Stadium – Kitende.
The disappointing result kept BUL FC unmoved in the 12th position with seven points and are scheduled to host Express FC on Saturday at the Kakindu stadium in Jinja.
