Dove Chess Academy will kick-start it’s 2021 calendar year with the Easter Blitz Rated Chess tournament scheduled for Friday 2nd April at Gloria Gardens in Namugongo.
Unlike the previous editions, this year’s rated event will be restricted to only 40 participants due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Easter Blitz U-25 one-day championship will be played in four categories with both Boys and Girls. Tournament director Christine Namaganda believes the event aims at developing leadership capacity through Chess.
“We shall begin our calendar year activities with the Easter Blitz rated tournament in this post covid-19 era. Our activities has been affected so much that’s why our last event (Independence Day Chess Tournament) was held online via lichess last year. We are happy that the situation is gradually normalizing and we’ve decided to restrict the participants to turn up and we pray for full normalcy,” said the Women Fide Master Namaganda.
She added, “we hold the annual Easter Blitz championships as a way of celebrating the Easter Day and as well work towards developing leadership capacity through the game of Chess.”
ChimpReports understands that the best three participants in each of the U10, U16 U20 and U25 categories will walk away with prize money, medals and trophies for overall winners while each player will receive a certificate of participation.
The 2021 Easter Blitz rated chess tournament is organized by Dove Chess Academy and sponsored by Novato Chess Club, International Chess Fellowship of rotarians and Rotary e-club 9920 francophone.
