Uganda Muslim Supreme Council on Friday held special prayers for the national soccer team the Uganda Cranes at the National Mosque – UMSC Headquarters Old Kampala.
The team will face their counterparts from Burkina Faso on March 26th and 29th 2016 and the winner in both encounters will qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2017.
Speaking to Muslims who took part in the prayers, the FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo said Uganda needs to win both games to qualify and this will require physical, technical and spiritual strength.
“The players were supposed to pray with us here but due to unforeseen circumstances, Juma time found them at Namboole.
They are all dedicated to Allah and Faruq Miya is the Imam of the team” Magogo said.
He further said “After today’s prayers, I urge you to continue praying for our boys at your personal level so that they can overcome the team from Burkina Faso”.
Uganda last reached the finals in 1978 and since then, the team has been facing elimination at qualifier stages.
The prayers were led by the National Mosque Imam Sheikh Hussein Rajab Kakooza shortly after today’s Juma prayers.
His Eminence the Ag. Deputy Mufti Shk. Khatwib Mukuluwakika was in attendance.
While delivering the day’s Khutuba (Friday Sermon), Shk. Ali Juma Shiwuyo the Assistant Imam of the National Mosque urged all Muslims to pray for the national soccer team because when it qualifies, Uganda as a country will benefit.
