
Uganda Cranes sensational forward Farouk Miya has claimed his first silverware at his new club Standard Liege after the club won the 2016 Crocky cup (Belgium cup) after defeating holders’ Club Brugge 2-1 on Sunday 20th.
The victory means Farouk Miya’s side who finished 7th in the regular season of the Jupiler League have qualified directly to the 2016-17 UEFA Europa league group stages.
The Ugandan captain was an unused substitute just a week after he debuted for the giants in a 4-0 loses away to KV Mechelen on 13th March.
Miya will now embark on a long journey to fly back to Uganda for the upcoming 2017 Afcon qualifier double encounter against Burkina Faso on Saturday 26 and Tuesday 29th March.
The game
Jean-Luc Dompe put Liege ahead in a the 17th-minute but Lior Refaelov finish past ex-Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes before the half-hour mark leveled matters for Brugge.
Club Brugge were dealt a blow just shortly after the break when Abdoulay Diaby was sent off. Standard Liege capitalized striker deficiency and scored an 88th minute strike through Croatian striker Ivan Santini.
