AUPL: Bright Stars Pip BUL in Game of Two Halves

Bright stars 2-1 BUL

Bright Stars picked a hard fought win against Jinja based club BUL in match day 10 game of the Azam Uganda premier league played at the Champions stadium, Mwererwe on Tuesday.

In a game of two halves, Bright stars took the the lion’s share in the first half but the remaining forty five minutes belonged to the visitors.

Baker Lukooya gave the hosts a deserved lead just after seven minutes with an overhead kick volley that went past goalkeeper Emmanuel Kalyowa.

Likooya jumped high before acrobatically connecting to Victor Aweko’s cross.

The visitors almost levelled matters two minutes later but skipper blasted the chance above the goal area.

After interval, BUL head coach Frank Anyau called for instant double change with Titus Tibita coming on for Julius Malingumu while Yudah Mugalu paved way for Fahad Bardiro and the changes had positive effect with BUL commanding the proceedings.

In  the 51st minute, BUL had a penalty appeal denied by referee Oula David who paved for play on after Innocent Asiimwe seemed to have handled Augustine Nsumba’s shot inside the forbidden area.

Substitute Titus Tibita levelled matters in the 71st minute when his shot deflected off Victor Aweko to send goalkeeper Nicholas Ssebwato the wrong way.

With the game edging towards the climax, substitute Joshua Kokas Opejo who came on for Methodius Jjungu scored from a free kick with four minutes to time, to seal maximum points for Bright stars.

The result means the Kawempe based club record their third win in the season and move to fourth position on 13 points while BUL lose their fourth game and drop one slot to 14th  on 7 points.
