The Parliament on Tuesday honored the departed Uganda Cranes goalkeeper, Abel Dhaira who passed on Sunday from Iceland.
During the opening of the last session of the 9th Parliament today, the Deputy Speaker Jacob Oulanyah who chaired the house dedicated the first five minutes to officially announce the demise of the late goalie whom he described as a distinguished sportsman and later asked the Members of Parliament to rise for a moment of silence.
Dhaira succumbed to Cancer on Sunday and arrangements for his remains to be brought back home are ongoing.
“Honourable members it is sad we lost the Cranes goalkeeper Mr Abel Dhaira. He was a distinguished sportsman that the country is going miss. Let us all rise up for a moment of silence in his honor,” said the speaker.
President Yoweri Museveni on Monday declared that the government is going to take care of the returning of the body whose the final resting ground is at his ancestral home in Jinja district.
