Maroons 0-0 Ndejje University
The top of the table clash between Maroons and Ndejje University in the Elgon group played on Sunday at Luzira prisons ground ended in a goalless draw with both teams failing to produce a spark.
Both teams came into the game level on points (13 points) but Ndejje had played six games, one more than Maroons after a 4-2 win against Kyambogo United on Thursday.
In a dull opening half, on form striker Patrick Kaddu got the first chance of the game in the 10th minute but his effort sailed above the goal.
Ibrahim Kongo too came close to scoring at the half hour mark when Ronald Kikonyogo laid him up with a pinpoint pass but his feeble shot was collected easily by Ndejje University goalkeeper Hannington Sssebwato.
The rest of half time failed to produce a spark and both teams went into halftime leveled.
Ronald Kikonyogo had an attempt on goal two minutes after recess driving through Ndejje defence but failed to put the ball beyond Ssebwato.
Ndejje called for the first substitution introducing Onek Alfred for Matovu Sam. The Lions took charge in the second period with second half substitute Onek causing trouble to Maroons’ defence.
Asaph Mwebaze also called for changes with Kikonyogo paving way for Musa Ssali while Peter Otai and Maxwell Okello came on for Patrick Kaddu and Godwin Kitagenda respectively.
Defender Eddie Kapampa almost snatched a win for the prison warders at the death when he pounced on loose ball after a goal melee but failed to find the target facing an empty net.
The result means both teams maintain their stay at the apex of the Elgon group on 14 points but Maroons lead on goal difference.
Asaph Mwebaze, the Maroons tactician said it was a fair result for both teams.
“Of course it was a top of the table clash and any point from such a game would be important. We did not play to our best abilities but the point we got was vital,” he said after the game.
